Summer in Laos
When I traveled to Laos this summer I was intending to regularly
send back digital photos, IPIX shots and commentary about my experiences
that could be posted on this web page to provide web site visitors
the sense of traveling with me. Working out the logistics was
harder than I thought, and "regularly" turned into "occassionally,"
but at least now I will be ready the next time to go! I brought
with me a Nikon Coolpix 950, with fisheye lens for the IPIX shots,
and G3 PowerBook that would allow me to download the digital photos
and make the necessary adjustments in Photoshop. (Although most
of my photographs that are posted on this web site are taken with
Canon EOS cameras with a variety of lenses.) This way they could
then be easily posted on this web page and saved to a floppy so
I could attach them to emails I'd be sending back to the States.
In Vientiane I did locate a Cybercafe, PlaNet, which made getting
on the Internet easy, and the cost was actually quite reasonable.
They have a second cybercafe in Luang Prabang which provides equally
good service, so I now know that at least in these two cities
getting online is no problem.
For my summer photos I've decided to provide thumbnail galleries
of my photos in a table format with descriptions along side. If
one of the thumbnails intrigues you, click on it to see an enlargement.
Displaying photos on the web is problematic and I hope the thumbnails
give enough detail to lead you to the next step of opening up
the thumnails to see the "full size" photos. This way
you'll be able to see what I really saw and feel what I felt,
I hope... And, I'm always curious to know which ones you
liked the best and why.
