Well Balanced Rig

The important thing with big sails is to retain the ease of sailing. The methods for controlling them have to be "designed in" to be as automatic as possible. The main method is to have a mast that will flex when a gust hits it. If the mast flexes the sail can be shaped to become flatter as the mast bends, reducing the effort required to hold the boat upright.

You don't have to think about this too much if you build an OZ PDRacer - if you use our mast and sail design it will all happen for you automatically.
