I think that was me

In response to a rather lightweight novel (Alan LIghtman's Reunion --the Einstein's Dreams guy, you know) in which a character says poetry is useless, I found myself saying, "Nonsense. Poetry is the means by which we repair our language."

And then, like, you know, I went "whoa."

It's pithy enough that it sounds like somebody else, but it's me.

Unless I'm coughing up a hairball of some distant unconscious past, some quotation read and forgotten, in which case I entreat someone to set me straight about the source.

It's true, though.
