| In place of the sermon on Sunday 27th May at Evensong there was a short and informal meeting of the congregation at St Chad's. The purpose of this, as last year at this time, was to keep the congregation informed about the situation concerning the future of St Chad's and to give the opportunity for those present to air their views. The Vicar explained the situation about the new Church Hall at St. Mary's and the difficulties that the Church Council was having about this project. He reaffirmed that St. Chad's would not close until the Hall project was completed - if then. He said that he personally thought that a parish of this sort was best centralised upon the Parish Church, but he also said that any eventual closure of St Chad's must only be made with the willing acceptance and approval of the congregation there. He was sure that if it became necessary this could and would be achieved without any bitterness or rancour. |
|
The place of St Chad's and its future in the life of the parish would appear on the agenda of the Parochial Church Council for the first time in July. He asked the St Chad's congregation to voice their opinions to their members of the P.C.C. before this meeting, so that the Church Council can have a wide spread of opinion before it. |
