Choir and Music

Saint Mary's Church, Barton-on-Humber is proud of its music. The leader of the choir is Rev Alan Wright, who has been Choirmaster for over 25 years. The organist is Geoffrey Brown. If you have the appropriate plug-in installed, you will now be listening to Geoffrey playing a well-known tune by G.F. Handel (mp3 format 2.9 Mb). The organ is by Foster and Andrews of Hull (a world-renowned firm of organ builders between 1843 and 1956) and dates from 1898 when it was originally installed in Saint Peter's Church. It was moved to Saint Mary's in 1973. In the 1990s, we spent £25000 on its renovation. To celebrate the centenary, the renovated organ was rededicated on Saturday July 4th, 1998.

You can visit other Church Choir web sites by clicking the Anglican Church Music Site. Many of them are cathedral choirs, so we are in good company!

Oremus Hymnal. The sound is better on this site and uses Quicktime rather than proprietary sound software.
