Offsetting alternatives

Let's face it, planting a few trees isn't going to null and void our eco-unfriendly processes. Check out www.cheatneutral.com for a satirical take on the absurdness of carbon offsetting.
But here are a few ideas that may salve our consciences...and be better for the environment.

Green Friends

Create a sub-group for your friends and volunteers.

This could be as a 'green friends' scheme, where the money raised is for eco-improvements to your organisation.
It needs to be backed up by a proper timetabled plan, like you would for any improvements.

You could use the opportunity to publicise things already within your organisation's power to change. And there's PR opportunities a plenty in this.

Green tariff

If you handle ticket sales, offer ticket buyers a chance to contribute to an eco-fund with every ticket they buy, again for eco-improvements.

Carbon better

Talk to other businesses: instead of investing into carbon-offsetting funds, why not invest into your organisation for green improvements?

This could be to cover the extra costs of converting to 100% renewable energy. Or a more eco-friendly refurbishment.
What would you like to do but can't afford it?

Businesses can offset their carbon emissions by helping charitable organisations cut down on theirs - without people making money off the back of the environment.
