National Society Open art exhibition, Menier Gallery, London

The National Society of Painters, Sculptors and Printmakers www.nationalsociety.org will hold their Annual Open exhibition next month, 12th-22nd December, at the Menier Gallery, Menier Chocolate Factory, 51 Southwark St, London SE1 1UR. Closed all day Sunday 16th, and after 3pm on 22nd. Admission is free. The National Society's annual exhibition always features a wide variety of high quality work, and in addition to its gallery I gather this venue also has a very good restaurant.

NSF Visualization Challenge 2007

This competition's full name is the International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge, run by the National Science Foundation and the Journal Science. I have won a Semifinalist honor in the category Photography with this picture called "Four Dimensions".

In it we see radial spreads at three separate stages; before they start, during the initial stages of three-dimensional movement, and later on when the spread is much bigger. Therefore time, the fourth dimension, figures highly in this image, where different stages of the rapidly and radically changing spreads are juxtaposed.

Article in Leonardo 40:5

The latest issue of Leonardo journal 40:5, due out this month, contains an article of mine, called 'Looking Beneath the Surface: The Radial Spread of Ink in Water'. If you want to see it, access Leonardo / MIT Press, or email me with your address and hopefully, depending on demand, I can send you an offprint.

Visions of Science competition results

My picture, 'Jet Travel', was announced as runner-up in the Art category at the Awards Ceremony held last week at the Royal Society, London. This image was taken from a sequence showing the development of a radial spread of ink in water. Here are three shots from this sequence, separated by four and ten seconds respectively; 'Jet Travel' is the middle image of the three. See all results at Visions of Science and Technology Winners
