WingNuts Goes Free

Here's a freebie that you can share with your members.

Freeverse Software  has made its game WingNuts: Temporal Navigator available as a free download. The previously $20 game is a PowerPC-only app that runs natively in Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.

WingNuts puts you in the pilot's seat of a time-traveling aircraft as you go after the evil (but wacky) Baron von Schtopwatch and his legions of robot-controlled aircraft as they plague the skies of various eras.

Ask the Techies how-to videos

Bill Newby & members of PMUG:

I wanted to share some information with you and your users about a tech
video podcast we have been creating here at Ohio University.

"Ask the Techies" video podcast, produced by the Computer Learning Lab at
Ohio University’s Academic Advancement Center, has been producing it’s
second season of free online tech help videos. The goal of the videos is to
empower people with technology in a lighthearted and fun way.

The videos typically feature two hosts, D.Lee Beard, computer skills teacher
and administrator at Ohio University, and a student or other Ohio University
“techie” explaining the latest in cool technology from iPods and Photoshop
to MS Office and video editing.

The videos are informal yet informative and similar in style to the former
TechTV show “The Screensavers.” Over 30 episodes have been published so far
with a new episode made available each week via web page
http://www.ohiou.edu/aac/lab/techies or iTunes subscription.

The podcast is called “Ask the Techies” because viewers can submit questions
to be considered for video replies in future episodes. We deal mostly with
Macs, but we do answer Windows questions as well. To learn more check out
the videos online at
http://www.ohiou.edu/aac/lab/techies or query the
iTunes Music Store for “Ask the Techies” –it’s still free (two versions, one
which is iPod compatible "Video Podcast" and the second one "H.264" is for
playing on computer screens only).

January topics will include iWeb and networking basics, problems, and setup.

Please pass this information on to your members. You are welcome to link to
our web page as well. From our web page, you will find links to the iTunes
music store feeds as well which you are welcome to link to.

Thanks in advance for sharing this resource. I hope it is helpful.

dCables

dCables was founded in 2003. Their mission is to provide you with quality cables at a fair price and deliver them with great service. Well I can confirm their mission statement is 100% fact. I just purchased a new Sony digital camcorder and needed a firewire cable to connect it to my PowerBook G4. A search of the web showed numerous part #'s and limited descriptions as to what cables were available BUT none explained the difference and showed diagrams and pictures to make certain I was ordering the right cable. The Sony manual stated a 4 pin x 4 pin was what was needed ( end of story ). A check with Sony and several brick and morter establishments put the cables out of my budget - they all wanted in excess of $35 for one cable. Well my surfing took me to dCables and a cross reference table to what cable I needed along with diagrams and pictures to make certain that the cable connectors would match up to my Sony and Mac. Cost of the cable was $6.95 and First Class Postage. Members can get a 13% discount when ordering be using the code " QMZ51 " when using the online order form.

NosillaCast - a Podcast about Mac freeware & shareware tools

I wanted to tell your user group about a podcast I do called the NosillaCast hosted at http://podfeet.com. I am a long time Mac user, and I'm passionate about freeware and shareware tools that actually solve real problems people have. I try to introduce open source tools that are cross-platform whenever possible, so as to include our Windows brethren. If you think your user group may find this of interest, please pass it along, if not, no worries! You can listen at the website, and there's links on the site to subscribe in iTunes, or through Odeo or Yahoo Podcasts. Hope this can provide value to your members.
