Papers and Presentations

The Pelerei team has written many papers and given many presentations. For those who wish to learn and do for themselves or just want to get started, here are resources we think will be useful. These are listed by who should gain greatest value from each collection plus a General Section at the end (see the section names in the right column of this page.)

New:Riding the Current May 5, 2009 Offers insights into the first three chapters of upcoming book of the same title. The presentation was given to NIH, Library of Congress, and representatives from other governmental organizations. (It's a large file. Give it time to download.)

Three Silent Questions, October 2008, at Story at Work, Copenhagen. This presentation is currently unavailable for downloading. Please be patient.

Barriers to Innovation as presented at the Smithsonian, May 2008. This was the introduction to the day on the barriers to innovation with two exercises for understanding them. (8.2MB file that will take a minute or two)

Innovation as presented at eGov, April 2008, a presentation on a case of finding an innovative solution to a typical business problem.

From the Smithsonian Institute's workshop of May 5, 2007, one of Madelyn's most popular, is the presentation on Conversations in Organizations, an introduction to the day with the results of the exercise, Conversation Starters.

Wake Me Up When the Data is Over, published in October by Jossey Bass and already in its second printing, contains a chapter by Madelyn that focuses on how story is the strategy, Chapter 10, "I Can See Clearly Now: Bringing Strategy Alive Through Stories." Her chapter tells the stories of six organizations that use story to create strategies that live, energizing every action taken to achieve the vision whether it is organization wide or specific to a unit -- AARP Service, Inc., Bristol-Myers Squibb, Cele Peterson's Fashions, Groh Productions and Groh Records, i.d.e.a.s., and Newark israel Medical Center.
