Spellcheck Tyranny And Lunacy
Usually, the spellcheck function
merely offers you the opportunity to look dumb. Today, it tried to force that
appearance on me.
In an e-mail message, I tried to type "Deja vu". The spellcheck in Microsoft Entourage promptly just changed "Deja" to "Deejay." Didn't even ask me first.
The more usual scenario is when it tempts you with the wrong homonym. My pet peeve in this category is "rein" and "reign." My teeth grind every time someone is "reigned in." Of course, I never know whether the writer required assistance in this error or not.
