A Bad Bad Thing
My beloved sister has done a bad bad
thing.
She bought the whole
5th season of "24" on DVD, and mailed it to
us.
For spring break, some
people went to Maui. Some went to France. We watched a whole season of "24" in
one week.
She might as well
have shipped us a family pack of heroin and a box of needles. We would sit there
after several episodes, noting that it was now after midnight, calculating
whether we had enough stamina for one more episode before turning our back on
Jack Bauer until dawn.
We
really like the storytelling concept of a drama which unfolds in real time, each
episode taking up one hour in a Very Bad Day. It is also a great luxury to watch
the clock skip ahead five minutes and know that you just bypassed five minutes
of commercials.
So now
Elizabeth has burned through her iTunes allowance downloading episodes from
Season 6 to her iPod. We also scored Season 1 on DVD, so that we could scoff at
how huge and primitive Jack's phones and other devices were
then.
I want one of those
bags that Jack carries around, complete with all the stuff that's in it. Now
THAT would be a good Father's
Day.
We are learning some of
the "24" conventions. After watching Season 5, it was no surprise when, ten
minutes into Episode 1/Season 1, Jack shot someone in the thigh. It was a
kinder, gentler Jack in Season 1 -- he just used a tranquilizer dart this
time.
Until my sister sent
these disks, I didn't know
Jack.
