King's Birthday It's traditional to write a wish on a big lantern, fire it up, and send it on it's way. Earlier in the evening there were speeches of praise honoring their beloved King. Later hundreds of lanterns were let loose to float high over Chiang Mai. It was quite a sight. There were no reports of fires the next day.
