Emergency Human Rights Delegation to Chiapas
September 16-21, 1999
The members of the delegation who visited Amador Hernandez were the first international observers to visit this community since the Army established its camp in August, 1999. The delegation came away from this experience with a profound respect for the strength and courage of the people of that area in dealing with the continual harassment and intimidation they are facing on a daily basis.

Two delegates pose for photos with members of the pro Zapatista community.
Delegates were welcomed by the indigenous people protesting at Amador Hernandez and shown great hospitality by the people there.
Delegates were given an open opportunity to discuss any topic they wished with the Zapatista supporters.
Delegates were able to observe the demonstrations at close range and to see how they were received by the government forces.
