PATTERN AND PLACE

Images of a man and a woman, a young person, the sun and the moon, the sea, sky and islands, houses, vessels and artifacts are contained within a grid-like pattern on the wall of a buiding that doubles as taxi stand and pump control station for Lerwick.
The images have been chosen for their significance within the environment, and the way in which the environment influences the design of man-made and natural objects.

The references to local landmarks requested in the brief were also interpreted as symbols of Community in an International sense. The work has been welcomed as an emblem for the community.
