Photojournalist Jorie Gracen is a McCartney maven by avocation. In this neat rock bio, her photos take center stage, and the text describes the vicissitudes of various McCartney and Wings tours. The occasional rock road show revelation is definitely included. For instance, Gracen recounts the 12-minute film used to open concerts on the 1993 world tour. "This film showcased a musical history of the rock star with some never-before-seen footage of the Beatles, . . . home movies of the McCartney family, and some graphic scenes of vivisection, animal mutilation and torture." The latter were parts of "McCartney's ongoing campaign against animal cruelty." Yow! All that and silly love songs, too.
Does the mop-top knight know how to put on a show, or what? Politics and gory visuals at rock concerts--shades of Marilyn Manson!--aside, this is a feel-good book for boomers. Uncritical and packed with pix and exasperatingly upbeat anecdotes, it is a must-have item for Beatlemaniacs.

"'The Long And Winding Road' is more than a song," Ringo Starr sings on the title track of his latest album "Choose Love." And one of the most remarkable things about "Choose Love" is that this far down that long and winding road, Ringo Starr has never sounded more excited and engaged by the music he's making and the message of love that it spreads."Choose Love" is full of inspired songs of innocence and experience -- the heartfelt and heartening work of someone who's lived a little and learned a lot. This is rousing, rough and ready rock & roll that lovingly embraces the past, but has its eye very much on our shared future. And it's an album first and foremost about the best choice any of us have -- Love.

"MAGICAL MYSTERY TOURS: My Life with the Beatles" by Tony Bramwell (Book)
CLICK LINK TO ORDER!
Tony Bramwell, a longtime Beatles business associate and childhood friend, offers a fond, intimate portrait of the Fab Four. His often gossipy recollections illuminate the players from their days as young "scousers" in working-class Liverpool to their formation as a group, and from their exhausting early stints in Hamburg to their astonishing stardom. Readers will be surprised to learn how much money the Beatles left on the table owing to the bad deals that Brian Epstein, the Beatles' respected but conflicted manager, made. Still, the group remained fiercely loyal to Epstein, who made them-and many others-rich beyond their dreams, cutting deals in what was then uncharted business territory. Throughout, Paul comes off as down to earth, Ringo as sophisticated and "Hollywood," and George, charming and gentle, if a bit unusual. Not surprisingly, it is John who piques the most interest. Bramwell blisters Yoko Ono, "the Princess of Darkness," and suggests that either she brainwashed John or that he was suffering from mental illness. Although music historians and Beatles collectors may feel they know the story, Bramwell's memoir is much more than Beatles history. Energetically written, this is a vivid and intensely personal look at not only the Beatles but at a storybook trip from the docks of Liverpool to swinging London and the very epicenter of the British invasion.iew.
Bramwell knew George Harrison, Paul McCartney and John Lennon from the time they grew up together in Liverpool. (He met Ringo when he joined the Beatles.) He stayed close by them for every step of the Beatles' meteoric rise - supporting them in business and, even more often, in their personal lives.Bramwell stayed with the Beatles through their time at Apple Records and their ascent to stardom, beginning with their first appearance in the U.S. in the early 1960s. Bramwell's story reveals fresh insight into the Beatles' childhoods and families, their early recordings and songwriting, Yoko's pursuit of John and her influence over the group, and much more.
"MAGICAL MYSTERY TOURS: My Life with the Beatles" is an insider look at the Beatles that rock music fans have been waiting for, for years.

Krammerhead combines new celebrity interviews (Conan O'Brien, Tom Hanks, Bonnie Raitt) with re-edited footage and outtakes from the first film, and while the result isn't as sharp or urgent as Idle's original parody, Can't Buy Me Lunch has many funny moments and good inside jokes for Beatles enthusiasts.

"Acoustic" John Lennon (Audio CD)
CLICK ABOVE LINK TO ORDER!!!
John Lennon was celebrated for the ornate and avant-garde adornments he brought to the Beatles, but he also at times responded to a powerful impulse to strip his music to its raw essence. Indeed, Lennon would have flourished in the unplugged era, when the nakedness of his best lyrics and the cutting directness of his astonishing voice would have been in the fore.
Since John never got around to doing an acoustic collection, the task has fallen to Yoko Ono, who's pulled together 16 skeletal Lennon tracks, including seven previously unreleased selections. Of particular note are riveting newly surfaced Plastic Ono Band demos of "Well Well Well," "God," and "My Mummy's Dead," and a harsher-than-the-electric version of "Cold Turkey." Three early '70s live recordings and a smattering of later demos flesh out the collection. The booklet includes lyrics, tablature, and chord diagrams, though the liner notes are unfortunately skimpy.
The CD collection comes with a chord chart that shows where to place your fingers on the frets of a guitar so you can play along with the album.Track Listings

So began the classic 1968 film Yellow Submarine, inspired by a song and hailed as an avant-garde amalgam of pop art, Beatles music, and highly innovative animation. "Postcards from the Boys" by Ringo Starr (Chronicle Books) Hardcover $29.95

The 51 postcards -- many of which are covered in whimsical drawings -- are colorfully reproduced, both front and back. Ringo Starr was the genuine working-class member of the Beatles. Born in abject poverty in a tiny terraced house in Liverpool's Dingle, deserted by his father, he suffered years of illness and hospitalization which affected his schoolwork. When he returned to the school to receive a reference, they didn't even know who he was! With a set of drums bought for him by his stepfather, he taught himself to play and soon became one of the most acclaimed drummers in Liverpool as the famed 'Mersey Sound' was being created. As a member of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, a group billed above the Beatles, he first appeared with the Fab Four in Hamburg during a recording session. He accepted the drum seat with Kingsize Taylor and the Dominoes, but decided to join the Beatles instead when they offered him £5 a week more!
Ringo didn't have the conventional handsome looks, but such an engaging personality and sense of humor, that he became the most popular member of the Beatles in America during the heyday of the 'British Invasion', the subject of numerous tribute records, some of which touted 'Ringo For President!'

The Beatles are always in the news and in our hearts. February 2004 marks the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' first trip to America, an historic event that was captured by the young photojournalist Harry Benson.Benson was commissioned to accompany the Beatles to Paris in January 1964, where he took his famous photograph of the pillow fight the night they learned that "I Want to Hold Your Hand" had climbed to number one on the U.S. pop charts. He was with them on February 7, when they stepped out of their plane in New York and into the pandemonium of Beatlemania, American-style.
In Miami, he introduced the Beatles to Muhammad Ali, and later that year he covered the filming of "A Hard Day's Night."
He was with them in Chicago in 1966, when John Lennon was quoted as saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, and covered their last tour as a band.
He documented the eye of the hurricane: four guys in their twenties at the center of the known universe.

"Blackbird Singing" Poems and lyrics by Paul McCartney (Hardcover Book)
CLICK LINK TO ORDER !!!
To actually read Paul McCartney's poems, whether exuberant love ballads or poignant messages of deepest grief, is to revel in the sheer power of language and to appreciate the electrifying confluence of dream and song. His words are as pure and magical as we remember them. Here, in his first collection of poems and lyrics, McCartney emerges with a dreamlike yet thoroughly mature voice that confirms his stature as one of the most original and best-loved poets of our time.
Inspired by his late wife, Linda McCartney, "Blackbird Singing" gives us extraordinary access to the inner life of one of the most influential figures of twentieth-century culture. Whether commenting on the strange unpredictability of life ("Little Willow") or the heinous folly of nuclear weapons ("Chasing the Cherry"), no one is more able than McCartney to use language to soar above the selfishness and intolerance that can bring us down. The poems here demonstrate, against an acknowledgment of the solitariness of existence, an irrepressible belief in the power of words and music "to take a sad song and make it better."

APPLE CORPS PRESS OFFICE -- Official Press ReleaseNEW DVD REVEALS THE INSIDE STORY OF THE BEATLES FIRST U.S. VISIT
The only film revealing the inside story of The Beatles conquest of America is to be released next month (February) on a new DVD to mark the anniversary of the birth of Beatlemania in the USA.
"The Beatles First US Visit " DVD, which includes never-seen-before footage, chronicles the remarkable two weeks in February 1964 that began America's still-enduring love affair with the group.
The film of the frantic fortnight records the hysterical reaction to The Beatles US debut in a documentary that was the real-life inspiration for the Beatles movie "A Hard Day's Night." Closely shot at the shoulders of John, Paul, George and Ringo by the pioneering Maysles Brothers, "The First US Visit "innovated intimate film-making that set a benchmark for rock and roll cinematography.
Albert and David Maysles were granted all-areas access the like of which is now unknown, filming The Beatles in the eye of their own hurricane as the band besotted America and lifted the nation from its gloom in the wake of President John Kennedy's assassination.
"The First US Visit" will be released by Apple Corps/Capitol Records on February 3rd in the USA and by Apple Corps/EMI Records on February 9th in the UK and rest of the world. The DVD release will follow exclusive theatrical premieres in New York, Los Angeles and London.
The Maysles film captures the manic moments from when thousands of fans greeted The Beatles as Pan Am Flt.101 touched down in New York on February 7th and sparked a two-week frenzy.
BEATLES FIRST US VISIT 2
As The Beatles became the first British act to conquer America - with "I Want To Hold Your Hand" at No.1 in the US charts - the Maysles Brothers shadowed the band off-guard and off-duty in dressing rooms, hotels and night clubs, at photo-sessions and press conferences, travelling together in limos and on trains as the then-wide-eyed lads from Liverpool sped from New York to Washington and Miami revelling in the wild reception to their first US trip.
Besides the revealing footage of The Beatles offstage, the DVD also features their first concert at The Washington Coliseum and their three historic performances on The Ed Sullivan Show - including the seminal night of February 9th when the band first exploded into the homes of a then-world record 73 million TV viewers.
Beatles performances on the DVD include "All My Loving," "Till There Was You," "She Loves You," "From Me To You," "This Boy," "Twist And Shout," "Please Please Me," "I Saw Her Standing There," "I Wanna Be Your Man" and the hit that began it all for America, "I Want To Hold Your Hand. "
The original black and white film - which was first shown on US and UK TV in 1964 as a 40-minute program - has been re-graded and the sound re-mastered for the new 80-minute version. The DVD also includes a 50-minute "Making Of The Beatles First US Visit," featuring footage that has never been seen before. The DVD also includes a new and revealing interview with cameraman Albert Maysles.
Subtitled in nine languages, The Beatles First US Visit DVD chronicles one of the greatest cultural events of the 20th Century and is a permanent record for generations who still remember where they were when the legend began.

"The Beatles Are Coming! The Birth of Beatlemania in America," by Bruce Spizer (Book)

HARDCOVER EDITIONPAPERBACK EDITION
"The Beatles Are Coming!" is the fifth book by Beatles author/historian Bruce Spizer. The book covers the Beatles first visit to the United States and the events leading up to the group's arrival on February 7, 1964. The book is 246 pages and contains over 450 images, including over 50 previously unpublished photos of the Beatles and never-seen-before documents. The Beatles Are Coming! is the most thorough and accurate book ever published on how Beatlemania evolved in America. It details why Capitol Records turned the group down four times before finally agreeing in late November, 1963, to release the Beatles records. It tells the stories of two small record labels, Vee-Jay and Swan, who issued the group's records without success in 1963. It details the American media coverage of the Beatles in late 1963, when Beatlemania was viewed as a curious fad happening in England that could never catch on in the United States. It explains how the Beatles were booked for appearances on The Jack Paar Program and The Ed Sullivan Show, as well as two concerts at Carnegie Hall. The book concludes with stories and pictures of the Beatles historic first U.S. visit in February, 1964.
In researching the project, the author reviewed hundreds of documents, magazines, and pictures as well as television news stories from 1963 and 1964. His interview subjects included influential newsmen such as Walter Cronkite, who wrote the foreword ot the book, and Edwin Newman, staff members of The Ed Sullivan Show, former president of Capitol Records Alan Livingston, employees of Carnegie Hall and numerous others with first-hand memories.
"Harrison" by Rolling Stone - Foreword by Olivia Harrison (Book)
CLICK TO ORDER!!!
George Harrison once half-jokingly referred to himself as an "economy-class Beatle." Many music fans and writers took that label to heart, recasting Harrison as little more than a serviceable sideman. Harrison's death last year has prompted a reevaluation of his contributions to his former band's artistry, as well as his often dismissed solo career.
Rolling Stone magazine does its part with this tribute, which includes a lengthy biographical essay, reprints of Harrison interviews and articles dating from 1968 to 1987, an annotated discography, and eulogies by Bob Dylan, Yoko Ono, Elton John, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards. The text was put together by some of the magazine's most accomplished writers, with Harrison's widow, Olivia, supplying the foreword. It is pleasing enough, but the book really triumphs with its wealth of stunning, career-spanning photographs many of which have seldom or never been seen. Occasionally, the writers unnecessarily revise history in Harrison's favor. Also, the haste in preparing the book is evident in incorrect photo captions, some amateurish misspellings, and the perpetuation of debunked myths. On the flip side, there are many insightful and moving moments, and ultimately the book succeeds in giving Harrison just recognition for his innovations and unswerving artistic integrity.
"Behind Sad Eyes: The Life of George Harrison" by Marc Shapiro (Book)
CLICK LINK TO ORDER !!!
Shrouded in a sea of mystery, the elusive George Harrison has long been the most private and enigmatic member of the Beatles. From his hard knock childhood in Liverpool to his ascendance into rock infamy, George Harrison's life has been a torpid ride filled with legendary success and heart crushing defeat.
New York Times bestselling author Marc Shapiro sheds new light on this paradoxical rocker, whose reputation for unusual religious practices and drug abuse often rivaled his musical notoriety.
A man whose desire was to be free rather than be famous, Harrison's battle against conformity lead him to music making, a soulful and creative expression that would be his ticket to success and the bane of his existence. Behind Sad Eyes is the compelling account of a man who gave the Beatles their lyrical playing style and brought solace to a generation during turbulent times.

Originally published in 1980 and cherished by fans and collectors, "I, Me, Mine" is the closest we will come to George Harrison's autobiography. It is "a sly paradox of a title," to quote Derek Taylor, The Beatles' spokesperson, "chosen by a man concerned for many years and for many reasons to send his ego packing...a book which tells a story of growing up, not necessarily the hard way, but certainly not the easy way."
Featuring George Harrison in conversation with Taylor, it touches on everything from early Beatlemania to India and Ravi Shankar to his love of gardening. The lyrics to over 80 of his songs, many in his own hand, are accompanied by his uniquely intimate and humorous commentary. As well, 50 archival photographs of George with the Beatles and solo capture a journey of creative and spiritual transformation.
Brimming with the wit, warmth, and grace that characterized his lyrics and his life, "I, Me, Mine" is a treasured portrait of George Harrison and his music."Let It Be... NAKED" The Beatles (Audio CD) 2 Discs

At last revealed - The Beatles album that has taken more than 30 years to finish, "Let It Be...Naked," just the bare sound of the band inside The Beatles."Let It Be...Naked" is the no frills, back-to-basics album that The Beatles first set out to make back in 1969 - but which was never released as they intended, the band back to the bone.
Now, through the smart digital technology of Abbey Road studios, the never-heard band's take of the original sessions will be finally released worldwide by EMI Records in November.
Naked is "Let It Be" brought right up to now for the "1 Generation," de-mixed and re-mixed, un-dubbed of orchestration, choirs and effects and stripped-back to the raw to reveal The Beatles simply as what they were very best at being just a great band.
"If we'd have had today's technology back then, it would sound like this because this is the noise we made in the studio," said Paul McCartney "It's all exactly as it was in the room. You're right there now."
"When I first heard it, it was really uplifting. It took you back again to the times when we were this band, the Beatle band," said Ringo Starr.
When The Beatles first set out to make the album in 1969, they intended to record an album that would be a return to live performance of just the bare necessities of the band, no studio effects or overdubbing of voices or instruments would be allowed. However, caught in the turmoil of the break-up of the band, the album was re-produced by Phil Spector and never released as The Beatles had originally meant it to sound. Until now."Let It Be...Naked's" track listing differs from the 1970 release; background dialogue, "Dig It" and "Maggie Mae" have been taken off the album and "Don't Let Me Down" has been added to the running order, which now is as follows: "Get Back," "Dig A Pony," "For You Blue," "The Long And Winding Road," "Two Of Us," "I've Got A Feeling," "One After 909," "Don't Let Me Down," "I Me Mine," "Across The Universe," "Let It Be."
"Let It Be...Naked" will be issued together with a bonus fly-on-the-wall disc that features extracts from tapes of The Beatles at the time of first making the "Let It Be" album and movie in the Sixties.
The 20-minute bonus disc is a unique insight into of The Beatles at work in rehearsal and in the studios in January 1969.
"Let It Be...Naked" will also come with a booklet that features historic photography of the recording sessions and extracts of band dialogue from the original booklet that first accompanied early copies of the 1970 album.
Released worldwide from November 17th, (November 18th in the US) "Let It Be...Naked" is the sound of The Beatles as nature intended; raw and rocking.

"Undressing Underwater" - Rusty Anderson (Audio CD)
CLICK LINKS TO ORDER !!!
Featuring guest appearances by Paul McCartney and Stewart Copeland, Undressing Underwater shines the spotlight on the guitarist/singer/songwriter career of a consummate musician, who continues to break ground while working with some of the best of his peers.
Undressing Underwater showcases Anderson's musical background, which spins through Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning work, from Paul McCartney, Perry Farrell and the Wallflowers, to Elton John, Joe Cocker and Sinead O'Connor. The ten songs on Undressing Underwater pair Anderson's vocal range with showcase of his talents, from rock guitar to hammered dulcimer and pedal steel.
Hurt Myself is the lead track, which is also the culmination of a childhood dream of playing with the Beatles, only in this case it's Paul McCartney playing on Rusty's own album, plus the rest of McCartney's touring band and producer David Kahne.
Anderson's background also includes a stint with Stewart Copeland and Stanley Clarke's Animal Logic, and over the years he and Stewart have continued working together. The former Police drummer returns the favor on rocker Catbox Beach.
"My house is filled with billions of cassettes, little scraps of paper and journals. Somehow these bits bonded together and became the CD," said Anderson. "Most of the recordings were done in between touring with Paul. In fact, the Hurt Myself session was booked in lightning speed, because after Paul said he wanted to record something, I realized we only had three days in LA before flying to Mexico City to play shows. The songs are mostly about facing one's demons and attempting to bottle them."

A great concept: The Beatles appeared four times on CBS' The Ed Sullivan Show, and while one is tempted to skip through this collection to watch only the Fab Four's 20 performances, there is historic value in seeing Sullivan's complete programs. With America reeling from the murder of a popular president, JFK, less than three months prior, the Beatles' Sullivan debut on February 9, 1964, ushered a renewing joy into the country's living rooms. The band kept it up another two weeks, sharing Sullivan's variety-show bills with the likes of impressionist Frank Gorshin, comedians Allen & Rossi, future Monkee Davy Jones (in a scene from Oliver!), and sundry unrepentant vaudevillians, magicians, and acrobats. Various problems with microphones and bad direction (one barely sees John Lennon on 2/9) couldn't stop the magic, and by the time the Beatles made a return trip in September 1965, the group's brilliance and wit outsized their television surrounding.

Presented in a handsome slipcase, "Lennon Legend" is both an illustrated and an interactive biography of the creative genius - songwriter, artist, social activist - who changed his times. Created with the cooperation of Yoko Ono Lennon, who has opened her archives for this project, the book offers insightful details about every era of John's life, from his early days at art school to the height of Beatlemania to "Imagine." A live recording of that song is included, along with several interviews of John talking about his life and art, on the audio CD contained in this package. The hour-long CD included with the book has Lennon talking about his work in his unmistakable combination of sly wit and engaging self-deprecation, a wonderful reminder of why John Lennon is still beloved more than 20 years after his murder.
Throughout, the book features archival photographs and reproductions of John's handwritten song lyrics, drawings, memorabilia, and personal papers. In all, 40 removable facsimiles can be enjoyed by the reader, several previously unpublished, including an intimate self-portrait in pen and ink and a plea for world peace. "Best of the Beatles Book" 1963 - 2003

All the Beatles Monthlies have been put together in this wonderful 288 page book. The now defunct magazine started in 1963 and included rare photographs, entertaining stories about the band, candid interviews, letters from fans, and was sanctioned by the Beatles Official fanclub. When the magazine came to an end in the '80s they were reprinted with four new pages placed in such a way that when removed the 'original' magazine remained intact. The new pages reflected the current news about the Beatles as solo artists. The original and reprints are highly sought after by collectors.

Ringo is the only member of the Fab Four to release an album of holiday music and, if this 12-song collection is any indication, Richard Starkey has certainly found his niche. This elegantly sparse production finds Ringo re-roasting old chestnuts such as "Winter Wonderland" and "White Christmas" with his zany, playful, rollicking sense of humor. Jazzy flourishes, rockabilly piano, and Scottish bagpipes go a long way toward lifting these classics out of mothballs. And the skinbeater in him makes "The Little Drummer Boy" irresistible. Even better are the six songs he and Mark Hudson (of the Hudson Brothers) penned for the disc, especially the sophisticated "Christmas Eve," which conjures up the ghost of Cole Porter. Aerosmith's Joe Perry provides soaring guitar work on two cuts, while former Eagle Timothy B. Schmit provides candy-cane sweet vocals throughout. As an added treat, Ringo covers the Beatles' "Christmas Time is Here Again."

Black & White
As if there were any doubt, this February 11, 1964 show (just days after their triumphant debut on Ed Sullivan's TV show) proves that the Beatles were one rockin' little combo, whatever the situation. The sound was awful, the din of the audience almost constant. Also, the concert set-up was in-the-round--but only Ringo Starr's rickety little drum riser could rotate, so during several songs the other three Fabs were obliged to turn their backs on their own amps to face the rest of the audience! No matter; they roar through their eight-tune set with palpable, irresistible energy--just check out "I Saw Her Standing There." Sure, the black-and-white footage is grainy, and the audio's lousy. But this document of the group at their early peak is a must-have for true believers. Considerable file footage and audio clips from the period help fill out both the concert program and an accompanying trivia quiz

"Two Us" starring Adian Quinn and Jared Harris (DVD-US & Canada)
CLICK LINK TO ORDER !!!
Since many movie depictions of famous figures are cringe-worthy, it is pleasant to report that Two of Us creates a smart, informed, and intimate portrait of two music gods.
This made-for-TV feature is a fictional speculation about a day in 1976 when Paul McCartney popped into John Lennon's New York apartment by surprise. With Yoko away on business, it's just the two giants spending a day together--bickering, goofing, toking, and eventually coming to a bittersweet reconciliation.
There are awkward TV-movie moments, and some psychobabble, but the film respects its characters too much to round them off into simpletons. Director Michael Lindsay-Hogg made Let It Be, so he could draw on first-hand experience, and Jared Harris and Aidan Quinn are totally committed to their roles.
"Ticket to Ride" by Larry Kane. (Book with bonus audio CD)
CLICK LINK TO ORDER !!!It was 40 years ago today--more or less--that a 22-year-old broadcast journalist from Florida was invited by manager Brian Epstein to travel with The Beatles to every stop on their first North American tours. The only American reporter in the official press party, Larry Kane obtained exclusive, revealing interviews with John, Paul, George, and Ringo. Fortunately, Kane saved his original notes and tapes, and shares them here for the first time. That material provides the basis for his intimate look back at the phenomenon of the Fab Four, and insights into the humor and personality of each group member. Ticket to Ride, illustrated with more than 30 photographs, captures a rare time in history, gracefully melding the story of the Beatles revolution with the changing tenor of the country. Hear John Lennon's early public criticism of the Vietnam War, and learn about the night the Beatles met Bob Dylan. "We had a crazy party the night we met [Dylan]," Paul recounts. " I thought I got the meaning to life that night." Ticket to Ride includes a 60-minute audio CD featuring rare interviews.
The broadcast journalism career of Emmy Award winner Larry Kane has spanned more than 45 years, including anchor positions at all three of Philadelphia's network television affiliates and a stint with the ABC-TV network in New York City.

Comment from a reader about the book:
Having read tons of books and column inches about the Fab Four, I can honestly say that this book was a real breath of fresh air. It is a thoroughly interesting an entertaining read for anyone with the slightest interest in the Beatles. The introductory essay about the sixties helps to put the Beatles firmly into context, but the real pleasure comes from McDonald's analysis of the Beatles songs.
Thousands of words have been written about The Beatles recordings all in an effort to capture for fans and collectors the fascinating truth about the singles and albums by The Beatles.

"Band On The Run: A History of Paul McCartney and Wings" by Garry McGee (Book)
CLICK LINK TO ORDER !!!
In this text, Garry McGee traces the history of Wings, the group Paul McCartney formed after the break-up of the Beatles. The text delves into the inner dynamics of the group, the role of Linda McCartney, its commercial and artistic success and its demise.
Just as Disney fans are either "Mouse" or "Duck" people, Beatlemaniacs are either John or Paul people. Although perhaps not without interest to both camps, McGee's book aims at Paul people who are also Wings fans, which raises some special challenges, such as evaluating Linda McCartney's contribution to the band and Paul's willingness to share credit and remuneration for Wings' commercial success. McGee is frank about the latter. For instance, he cites Denny Laine's situation vis-a-vis "Mull of Kintyre," for which he should have been paid millions but, as a contractual collaborator, got very little. Such was doing business within Wings. As for Linda's musicianship, while no one lauds her keyboard virtuosity, and some disdain her singing, Wings guitarist Henry McCullough says, "it didn't make any difference because she was playing a part"-- rather like hired hand Sid Vicious in the Sex Pistols, eh? McCartney says he doesn't regret Wings or think it was "that much of a mess." High praise. As a book-length exploration of McCartney's first post-Beatles band, this is the stuff.

This volume also aims to get behind the personalities of the fab four. Find out what songs should have been McCartney/Lennon rather than Lennon/McCartney, about their inter-band rivalries and how John Lennon and Paul McCartney sidelined George Harrison's songwriting.
Marketed as cynically as any boy band of today, the Beatles may be the most extraordinary music phenomenon of the last century-but not everything is known about their songs. Here, for the first time, their songwriting and recording secrets are disclosed: their studio tricks, their songwriting formulas, the music they "stole" from others, and the commercial compromises they made to achieve hit status. Including a chronological survey that reveals something new about every song released, "Beatles for Sale" may be the most informative and frank account of their music ever written.
Journalist David Rowley writes for numerous publications, including The Guardian, Time Out and the Independent on Sunday.

"The Beatles Gear" by Andy Babiuk (Book)
CLICK LINK TO ORDER !!!
Babiuk takes a unique approach to the Beatles' story by documenting the history of their music equipment. The Beatles are forever associated with particular instruments, and thoughts of them immediately conjure images of John's Rickenbacker, George's large, hollow-bodied Gretch, Paul's signature custom Hofner violin bass (the first left-handed bass the company ever produced), and Ringo on a Ludwig drum kit.
Babiuk begins with Lennon's first guitar in 1956 and follows through to the band's final 1969 sessions at the Abbey Road studios. As he shows, their choice of instruments were outlets for their personalities and creativity, and they selected a particular make and model for its individual sound, used that sound to its fullest, and then progressed to the next. Though dubbed "the quiet one," Harrison proved the maverick, continually experimenting with guitars and instruments from other nationalities, leading to the important Eastern influence on the Beatles' music.
Babiuk provides marvelous technical detail on all of the Fab Four's gear, with numerous photos of either their own instruments or identical models. A fresh perspective on the group's well-documented history will appeal to hardcore fans and interested lay readers alike.
