"Choose Love." Ringo Starr - KOCH Records (CD)

CLICK ABOVE LINK TO PRE-ORDER!

To be released on June 7th!

"'The Long And Winding Road' is more than a song," Ringo Starr sings on the title track of his latest album "Choose Love." And one of the most remarkable things about "Choose Love" is that this far down that long and winding road, Ringo Starr has never sounded more excited and engaged by the music he's making and the message of love that it spreads.

"Choose Love" is full of inspired songs of innocence and experience -- the heartfelt and heartening work of someone who's lived a little and learned a lot. This is rousing, rough and ready rock & roll that lovingly embraces the past, but has its eye very much on our shared future. And it's an album first and foremost about the best choice any of us have -- Love.

"Postcards from the Boys" by Ringo Starr (Chronicle Books) Hardcover $29.95

Whenever John, Paul, or George went on a trip, they would send Ringo a postcard. Now, for the first time, Ringo Starr is opening his private archive to share this delightful and very intimate correspondence.

Whether it's John advising Ringo to record a "great & simple" song like Blondie's "Heart of Glass," Paul and Jane Asher dropping a note from Rishikesh to report on their meditation lessons with the Maharishi, or George writing from the Great Barrier Reef to confirm plans for Christmas dinner, each postcard is a warm and personal snapshot of life in (and after) The Beatles. The 51 postcards -- many of which are covered in whimsical drawings -- are colorfully reproduced, both front and back. Ringo's droll commentary fills in the blanks, though he does confess that at times he had to consult the Internet for details! Often funny, occasionally bittersweet, and always revealing, "Postcards from the Boys" is a must for Beatles lovers.

Ringo Starr was the genuine working-class member of the Beatles. Born in abject poverty in a tiny terraced house in Liverpool's Dingle, deserted by his father, he suffered years of illness and hospitalization which affected his schoolwork. When he returned to the school to receive a reference, they didn't even know who he was! With a set of drums bought for him by his stepfather, he taught himself to play and soon became one of the most acclaimed drummers in Liverpool as the famed 'Mersey Sound' was being created. As a member of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, a group billed above the Beatles, he first appeared with the Fab Four in Hamburg during a recording session. He accepted the drum seat with Kingsize Taylor and the Dominoes, but decided to join the Beatles instead when they offered him £5 a week more!

Ringo didn't have the conventional handsome looks, but such an engaging personality and sense of humor, that he became the most popular member of the Beatles in America during the heyday of the 'British Invasion', the subject of numerous tribute records, some of which touted 'Ringo For President!'

"The Best of Ringo Starr : The Christmas Collection : 20th Century Masters" (Audio CD)

Ringo
is the only member of the Fab Four to release an album of holiday music and, if this 12-song collection is any indication, Richard Starkey has certainly found his niche. This elegantly sparse production finds Ringo re-roasting old chestnuts such as "Winter Wonderland" and "White Christmas" with his zany, playful, rollicking sense of humor. Jazzy flourishes, rockabilly piano, and Scottish bagpipes go a long way toward lifting these classics out of mothballs. And the skinbeater in him makes "The Little Drummer Boy" irresistible. Even better are the six songs he and Mark Hudson (of the Hudson Brothers) penned for the disc, especially the sophisticated "Christmas Eve," which conjures up the ghost of Cole Porter. Aerosmith's Joe Perry provides soaring guitar work on two cuts, while former Eagle Timothy B. Schmit provides candy-cane sweet vocals throughout. As an added treat, Ringo covers the Beatles' "Christmas Time is Here Again."
