20061229-2_T15 M42 Ha 15 minute stacked and processed image. This image is the base for combining with 2 & 4 minute combined image. You can see the remaining vignetting that the flat didn't take out (I'm assuming it's because of my inexperience with taking flats with the STL11000M. Doing flats with my DSLR's seems easier to me, time will tell) Also, the arc's at the edges are what I can only assume to be artifacts from the R / C. Estimate the distance between the rear of the R/ C to STL chip to be roughly 3.5 20061229-2_T15
20061229-1_All M42 Ha, 2 & 4 minute composite & 15 minute combined by layering the 2 & 4 minute composite on top of the 15 minute and using a mask. Additionally, a synthetic flat was made to further reduce vignetting. All processing after this resulted in the 20061229_Ha image on my Messier page. Note: this greyscale was concerted to RGB, resized and jpg for display on site. 20061229-1_All
20061119_M042_RePr1 Same M42 as before with mid-range color balance shifted to more blue. Also tweaked the levels in the red and blue channels until I didn't get clipping in the red at the high end and blue at the low end when I converted from Adobe RGB (1998) to sRGB EC61966-2.1 profile. Oh yea, I had desaturated the previous version a bit. I went back one version before the desaturate step and used it. 20061119_M042_RePr1
20061118_M042_NB M42 - Narrowband Image, Red = Ha, Green = O III, Blue = S II. Ha also used for luminance. This is my first attempt with an astro CCD camera. Scope is an wedge mounted N11GPS. Camera is class 2 STL-11000M (my first astro camera!) configured with narrowband filters. 10 x 4 minute images for each band, binned 2 x 2. Camera control and dark cal was via Equinox, alignment and combination done with ImagesPlus via Virtual PC (on my mac), rest of the processing done in Photoshop. Guiding was done with an STV (since I already knew how to use it), I attribute the marginnal guiding to my rush in setting up ('scope wasn't balanced to good) and another experiment that I did that night. Most of the Ha images were taken through fog of changing thickness. Cleared up latter in the evening. Taken from my back-yard. 18 Nov 2006. 20061118_M042_NB
0 Astroplanner Overlay I finally figured out how to get the Astroplanner FOV into a image to verify stars and other items of interest. This works on a Mac, don't know if their is an PC equivalent. On Mac's when you select print, you have a option of saving the file as a PDF (I use 11 x 17 paper size to reduce the amount of rescaling required). I then open the PDF in Photoshop CS, tweak it as required (for my tastes) then copy it and paste it as a new layer in the target image. I set the Astroplanner layer to exclusion (which is why you see the blue-green color on the stars that line up. The red dots are where I couldn't scale/rotate/move to make a match. It's actually a 'tad bit more complicated than I described, but not to bad. 0 Astroplanner Overlay
