Mark
Wiesner - 1997
A four year letter winner in both cross country
and track. As a freshman and sophomore Mark was a very good
1600/3200 meter runner. As a junior and senior he moved down
to the 400/800 meters with great success. Mark was a state
qualifier as a junior in the 3200 meter relay. As a senior
he became a dominating anchor runner in both the 3200 and
1600 meter relays with victories at Conference, Regionals,
and Sectionals. Anchored the school record setting 3200 meter
relay that finished fourth a the 1997 state meet and the 1600
meter relay that narrowly missed qualifying for the finals.
Team captain in track and cross country and helped the team
the cross country team to three consecutive top five finished
at the state meet (1993, 94, 95) and national rankings in
both 1993 and 1995. Now competing (1998) at UW LaCrosse. Mark
was a very coachable athlete who worked very hard to become
an all state performer and helped his team to the 1997 State
Championship.

Josh Briggs - 1997
One of the most diversely talented athletes
ever to compete in track and field in the city of Racine if
not the state of Wisconsin. At 6' 6" Josh pole vaulted
14' 9" (school and city record), high jumped 6' 6"
(tied a school record), and threw the discus over 140'. As
a pole vaulter, he placed 4th in the state track meet as junior
and 3rd as a senior. A true big meet performer, Josh always
seemed to save his best performances for the really big meets
and could always be counted on to come through in the clutch.
As an equally talented volleyball player, Josh accepted a
volleyball scholarship to Penn State University in 1997. It
was athletes like Josh who helped us win the 1997 W.I.A.A.
division 1 state championship.

KEVIN BARRY - 1997
One of the truly great shot putters in Wisconsin
high school track history. Kevin threw the shot 62' 5"
in his senior year. He was ranked 13th nationally, placed
2nd in the 1997 W.I.A.A. State Track Meet, holds the school
and city records in the shot put. Although Kevin had great
success as a senior he had to learn to take advantage of his
tremendous physical
talent. Not until his junior year did he realize that physical
size (6' 6" & 326lbs as a senior) was not the only
attribute that a shot putter needs for success. As a junior
and a senior Kevin worked as hard or harder than any weightman
that we have ever had at Park. As a senior at 325 lbs Kevin
had a vertical jump of 28". As a football player, Kevin
was voted All County Player of the Year and All State Defensive
Player of the Year. Attended Hutchinson Kansas Community College
in1997. Kevin is the type of athlete that comes along once
in a blue moon and was instrumental in our 1997 state championship.
