Indonesia Missions By Martin Johnson

Due to globalization and the world market, for the past several decades the use of English has been expanding and now dominates international business, entertainment, higher education, aviation and diplomacy. Governments and their people know that they must master English if they are to advance in this new age. The need to learn English is so great that at any one time there are an estimated 20,000 openings world wide for native English teachers and too many students to teach.

Indonesia is no exception, ‘everyone’ wants to learn English and most are willing to study the Bible in order to do it. Therefore, we are heavily involved in evangelism through Bible based ESL classes. This is also how we gain permission to live in Indonesia, as English Teachers.

Our Bible/English course along with WBS is advertised in Jakarta on our weekly radio program on 96.3FM at 10:00PM Jakarta time. Those interested in studying register and begin weekly lessons. Through these lessons the Truth is boldly taught and relationships are built. These students along with WBS students will be encouraged to be involved in small Bible study groups throughout the city and to attend worship both conducted in their heart language, Indonesian.

In these small groups they will be further evangelized and discipled. These small groups will form the basis for new church plants.

We’ll be using short-term mission teams sent by congregations from the states to help in English/Bible teaching campaigns and WBS seminars.

We have set as a goal to have an AIM team (apprentice missionaries) join us in 2010 and also hope to be assisted in the same way by Senior AIM teams (retired individuals involved in missions).

Currently we have about 1500 WBS students in Jakarta. We will work with these students in our WBS follow-up program.
