| CHAPTER TWELVE: Alice's Evidenceeeeeeee
Alice cried, "Here!" and in all the confusion she had forgotten how big she had grown, and in a hurry she jumped up, knocking over the jury box. She started picking up all of the jury and putting them back quickly. The King/Judge said, "The trial cannot proceed until all the jurymen are back in their proper places - all", looking at Alice in such a manner that she felt she had to look at the jury box, and she noticed that in her haste she had put in Bill the lizard upside-down. As soon as she had put them all in right and they had recovered from the shock, the Judge/King asked Alice, "What do you know about this business?" Alice replied that she didn't know anything about it. The King/Judge said, "Nothing whatever?" "Nothing whatever", said Alice. He replied, "That's very important", and the Rabbit corrected him, as he had meant to say unimportant, The Judge/King started sounding out the two words, as if he was testing which one sounded better. |

| A few moments later, the King/Judge called out, "Silence!" and read out to the court, "Rule Forty-Two: All persons more than a mile high to leave the court". Everybody suddenly turned their gaze to Alice. Alice started talking to the Judge/King and the Queen, until after a few minutes she had offended them too much, and the Queen shouted, "Off with her head!" and Alice shouted back, "You're all just a pack of cards!". Without order, the whole pack rose up into the air and flew at her, trying to knock her down, and she gave a little scream and beat them off, and found herself lying on the bank with her sister, beating leaves off herself. "Why, what a long sleep you've had!" said Alice's sister, and Alice said, "What a curious dream I had!" and she proceeded to tell her sister all about it until her sister said, "But now run up to your tea; it's getting late". And Alice got up and ran off, thinking about the Duchess and the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter and the Queen, and everything else she had experienced in her dreams, as it had been so wonderful. | |||
Her sister didn't go back to the house with her, though, she decided to stay and think about Alice's dreams, and soon enough she fell asleep as well. She dreamt of all the things Alice had, the Mouse swimming up to her, the Queen shouting "Off with their heads!", the baby turning into a pig, and everything else mixed with the distant song of "Turtle Soup". When she got out of the dream, she kept her eyes closed, and kept thinking about Wonderland. When she was finished, she thought about how when Alice grew up, she'd tell her children and grand-children about her long-ago adventures in Wonderland, and Alice would remember her long-ago youth, and the long summer days. THE END |
