The sixteen story Monadnock building (Burnham and Root, 1889-1891) is still standing in Chicago. In 1980, Pannier created a nine painting series dedicated to this building. See "To the Monadnock"

The fifteen story Great Northern Hotel building (Burnham and Root, 1890-1892) was completed after Root's death Although the hotel was demolished in 1940, Pannier chose not to create and slash a second canvas. Ironically, this painting was inadvertently destroyed in a basement flood. Only a working drawing remains to document the painting's existence.
