Paintings Chicago Ignored

To John Wellborn Root

The eleven story Rookery building (Burnham and Root, 1885-1886) is still standing in Chicago. Pannier created two paintings dedicated to this building. Ironically, one of them was inadvertently destroyed in a basement flood. Only a working drawing remains to document the painting's existence.
