Sorpresa: le armi di distruzioni di massa non c'erano proprio. Firmato: ispettori USA. Saddam le aveva distrutte dopo la prima guerra del Golfo. E a quanto pare al momento dell'invasione la capacità irachena di produrre armi di distruzione di massa era prossima allo zero. Segno che la tanto snobbata strategia del containment aveva ottenuto dei risultati significativi. E che la guerra non era giustificata da un "clear and present danger". Qui l'articolo di Walter Pincus del WP che per primo, snobbato dal suo stesso giornale, aveva espresso dubbi sull'argomento principe per scatenare l'invasione, prima che l'invasione scoppiasse. Questa è l'apertura di tutti i siti e le tv americane e inglesi. Ci sarà bisogno di un capolavoro di spin per ricucire questo devastante squarcio alla credibilità dell'amministrazione repubblicana USA e di quella laburista inglese. Qui Josh Marshall. Sanctions worked. Weapons inspectors worked. That is the bottom line of the long-awaited report on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, written by President Bush's handpicked investigator. [...] Administration officials will no doubt point to sections of the report citing evidence that front companies were supplying Iraq with banned materials, and that Iraq had money and expertise that could be used to make weapons. They will also point to Mr. Duelfer's speculation that support for the sanctions was eroding. But nothing in the voluminous record provides Mr. Bush with the justification he wanted for a preventive war because the weapons programs did not exist. And as the war continues to bog down, the power of nonviolent international sanctions looks more muscular every day.
