It's fall and time for new stuff: That's
right, fall is here and while the kids are back in school THESE kids
are rockin' on. Some changes are in the works. Mighty Jeff
and The Sawbuck Mark Sanborn brothers have chosen to move on to bigger
and better things so that's nothing but opportunity
for these white meats. While we're back to being the powerhouse 3
piece rockin' roadhouse blues band we have a new member, Dave (2.0)
Cipullo, now on drums.
Oddly he and Ron share their college alma mater of Metropolitan State College in Denver, CO where they graduated OH SO LONG AGO! We won't state dates at this time! Meanwhile Dave is bringing a great attitude, and groovin' chops to the music now with Chad and Chop himself. Come on out and introduce yourself soon.
New Tunes, new look, new swag, new venues! All this characterizes Poke Chop and TOWM as we head into the fall season. Yep, we're constantly adding new material based on so many of your suggestions and a little brainstorming of our own. Don't forget we have stickers featuring original art (ask about Skinny Lynn Cook) for your bumper or simply wherever you'd like to place one, available featuring our own El Puerquito singin' the blues. Come on out and get one for one thin dollar.
We're debuting some new clubs every month, which means that it'll only be a short drive to wherever it is we're playing tonight. We haven't seen you lately. The nights are getting shorter so opportunity is knocking to get out and have some fun! Be sure to get out and support your local live music venue as well as the musicians. For them it's a labor of love, they do it for your appreciation.
Meanwhile check the schedule as we keep workin' it on through the winter. We've eclipsed 100 performances again for the 3rd straight year.

Ron
Gill, aka "Pokechop",
has been playing rockin' rhythm and blues guitar for any number of
years
now
.
He was born in New York City but spent most of his life in the west.
What began in
a small Colorado cowtown as an experiment at playing a musical
instrument
in the
1960's during the heyday of the British Invasion turned into a
lifetime of study and devotion to the guitar, harmonica and all styles
of the
blues. Influences are many as would be expected over the
period
of this long a time but current favorites are Little Charlie Baty,
Freddie King and Hollywood Fats on guitar, James Harman and
of
course Little Walter on harmonica and Jimmy Reed and Lucky Peterson for
their songwriting skills. Other groups he's performed in are
The
Phantom Freeway Rhythm and Blues Revue, Otis T. and the Hammers, Cindy
Sweeney and Wichita River and Plymouth Rock. Did I mention,
Once
upon a time the blues boarded a riverboat down in New Orleans. .
.

The Players
The Other White Meats (TOWM).
Dave "2.0" Cipullo is now anchoring the
heartbeat to the soul of the blues that is The Other White Meats.
He and Poke Chop share the bond of being graduates of the same
college in Denver Colorady...Go Roadrunners!
Dave
comes from a family of musicians--his grandfather was a conductor and
percussionist and wrote marching band music. His father, who was a
drummer of dance bands, gave him his first drum set and lessons at the
age of 2. By the age of 13, there wasn’t a song he was not
willing to tackle. As a teenager, he also learned to play the trumpet
in the drum and bugle corps but loved to play the drums.
Went on to play with Rock 'N Roll bands throughout the 70's in
Massachusetts before and after a short stint in the military. He was
accepted to play drums for the Army, unfortunately it didn't fly
because of a commander who had better plans for him. During college in
he played with the Jazz Ensemble at Metropolitan State College in
Denver, Colorado. It was in Denver where he had some stints performing
Rhythm & Blues with bands including Ricky Earl.
More recently in Maine, he did some recording with an Eagles tribute
band and then some performing and recording with a Christian rock band
as well as some steady Sunday performance at a local church. He also
trained as a DJ at WMPG radio in Portland, ME.
He still has the dream, like all musicians, to make it big sometime,
even if it's in a blink of the eye. He has a great attitude, enjoys
people, and likes to get out and listen to other musicians perform. He
has traveled the country, lived in other places and had a good time so
far and will keep on drumming.
Chad
Thorne is now holding down the bottom end. While he IS a lefty,
we won't hold it against him. He
began playing guitar right-handed at the tender age of
thirteen. In 1980, after many years of playing righty, an injury
to Chad's left arm rendered him unable to fret strings with his left
hand. He subsequently discovered that he could pluck strings with that
hand, however, and set about re-learning how to play guitar
lefty. In the midst of that process Chad also found his true
"musical voice," the electric bass. He has now played that instrument,
thankfully and joyfully, for a number of years in a variety of musical
contexts.
Chad (also known as "Lamb Chop") is happy to be "bringing the funk" with PTOWM. More on Chad will be revealed as
it becomes apparent. We're examining him with a suspicious eye,
after all he IS a lefty!
While driving an unforgettable beat is their trade, these men comprise the rock solid rhythm section that is the hallmark of dance music around the world.
