Changes TONIGHT

The software arrived two days ahead of schedule, and when my wife lets me it is going to be a late night of creating a brand new world here at OUTOFTHESILENT. What will it look like? Not sure the computer is updating right now, as I write. Then I will spend some time with the wife (as the kids will be in bed) and then I might not sleep... So check in latter tomorrow and see if I was able to accomplish something new... where to go? Again, not sure yet... we will see... I will post the new links here, when they are done...

Changes

Do to the fact Apple is so cool and continues to be an innovator expect some changes around here. Oh they may take a little getting used to. Some website names may change... BUT when all is LIVE the changes will so radically change this site and the way that things run that people will begging me on how to do it. Of course the simple matter of the fact is... Buy a Mac!! yes it is that simple and that cheap (under 500 if you really want to know). Anyway, I could write much more, but I am still to busy learning about all the new changes...

Two Weeks: I am a Sloth

Again, back on track of eating right and upping the exercise routine. I have not eaten well for about two weeks nor have I exercised (rigorously) for about the same. What has happen to me? Well, I got sick, feel like yuck, but LUCKILY no weight gain!! The question is: Did I really not gain weight? In discussing this with my wife, she believes I lost muscle, and gained weight, although my "weight" didn't change. I am happy my weight didn't change, but I do believe my wife is right. Two weeks of inactivity will lessen muscle every time. I pick my running back up today, stepping back a couple of weeks realizing that I will not be able to start RIGHT OFF where I left. And I am adding in my focus on the abbs. I not only want to be healthy and slim, but I would like a body that looks good too. Of course that brings back the "shaving" question....

Pre-Christmas Story: Yes I am a Sap (noun form of sappy)

The only movie my wife and I saw this little Christmas Break was about two weeks ago. We saw Pride and Prejudice. Oh we could have gone to see The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, but that is too long to write. Then we could have seen King Kong, but at the time that was too long to watch. So on a "dare" (almost) we went to this unlikely little film. Ok, I will be honest. I didn't want to be in the crowds of TCON:LWW, and I didn't feel like sitting through King Kong (or Jamie didn't not sure at this point), and on a dare (almost) we went to see this little gem.

I was most impressed with them film. I really enjoyed the other movies of Jane Austin's that I have seen, but I found this one to be very witty and quick and oddly moving (especially during the dancing scenes). If you haven't forked over the money to see the film, and the girl you might be diggin on enjoys these flicks, I say go for it. I really wanted to see it again. So this WAS the only movie we have seen. And now the slump of movies prior to the BIG 06 push... which there seems to be a lot on my list of 06 movies to see. How many will we go to? That I don't know...

3F

Family, Food, and Fun. That about sums up the last two weeks, and why I haven't written. I have been to busy being busy. Ok and being up late playing some PS2 game, but it has been a very full week and half of family, eating, and stuff. It sure went fast though. We sent everybody home. Micah, Julia, Lexy, and Micayah all went back to their homestead in Oklahoma (that was four people). Then we sent Steve, Laura, and Corrie back to their little state of California (that was three people). And in a strange way our house feels empty with the Five of us left (Jamie, Tim (me), Oliver, Noah, and Myles). You see it is the first time since September (4 months) that we have had the house to ourselves. For those who didn't catch it, my parents didn't move out of our house until the day the Californian's arrived. There was like a 5 hour window to get the stink out of parents (not enough time...) before others moved into their place. So yesterday evening (Tuesday night) was the first night that Oliver was off the floor and back in a bed in like 4.5 months. He was happy to have his room back. It has been fun having a lot of people over, but now Jamie is a little sick (or a lot sick), Tim is a little sick, the boys seem a little sick, and there needs a bit of a rest. At least the boys (Oliver and Noah) went back to school today so there was some reprieve for my wife. Of course she was suppose to start her new job today, but because she has been sick she wil not be able to do it. She was a little bummed at that. So much to write. It will be gotten to, just at another time. Just know for now, that things are back in their groove and new grooves are going to have to be carved, and old ones redone.

Our boys from the Church Cantata. Jamie made those sheep costumes.

13 and Snow

Yesterday was my 13 mile run. It was a good run. I would say the first 10 miles went fairly well. Meaning I really wasn't feeling it, and it felt good. Around mile 11 I begin to feel it, but it still wasn't to painful. Compared to last weeks 12 mile run I felt much better. During that 11th mile I heard small leaves sound. I thought it was the leaves falling, or something of that sort. But after I left the shadow of the tree, I could see things still falling. Then I noticed that white things were sticking to me. It was snowing. It was cool. It lasted 2 minutes or less!! None the less it was fun to see some snow fall... 13 miles and some snow...

No Snow, But Ice

As you may have read over at my wife's blog that we didn't have snow, but we had an ice storm instead. You can read about here on FOX. The ice storm was really cool... Sadly I had to go to work... Oliver didn't have to go to school till two hours into the day. Normally he starts school at 7:40, but yesterday it was 9:45. The same today for Olie. Even though we didn't have any more of the storm the day was delayed. I had the joy of driving in the ice, because my school district is pretty dumb! Anyway, ice storms are dangerous, probably more so then snow because it is so heavy and snow is not. What happens is the rain falls and it hits the trees and power lines and everything. So there ends up being a thick layer of ice all around anything that is coming up out of the ground. Needles' on trees are each wrapped in ice. Very nice, Very Cool, Very cold... Some pictures of the weather:

The first picture is of Oliver's School Website stating that there is a weather delay, and the other is of a weather map showing the snow, ice, and rain...

Reading Update - What you Reading?

I have been making progress in reading through the Bible by the end of the year, since last posted about the reading (16 days ago) I have read:

Genesis
Exodus
Leviticus
Ruth
1 Samuel
2 Samuel
1 Kings
2 Kings
1 Chronicles
2 Chronicles
Ezra (Middle Of)

It has been good to read as a lump sum instead of little at a time or parsing the individual readings. At any-rate, making progress...

Also Finally finished The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Which, and The Wardrobe. Which means it won't be till January when I pick up another book of this sort. I will probably read The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magicians Nephew as my "pleasure" book.

Have You Seen

If you haven't had a chance to check these out take ten minutes out of your wasted day and see some new cool trailers:

FIRST: You have to check out "The Da Vinic Code" new trailer. If nothing else but to see a Tom Hanks you have never seen before...

SECOND: For the tidal wave alone you have to check out "POSEIDON." You may never want to cruise again...

THIRD: Lets not forget "Superman Returns " either, if you haven't seen that one...

FOURTH: Alright not done yet you have to see "MI:III " for those not in the "know" that is Mission Impossible 3. It is an OK trailer, and it gets you all hyped up for some Dianetics and all...

Oh on a side note, if you want to not ruin your Apprentice experience because it is tivoed and you haven't had a chance to watch yet... don't go to the EW website... It didn't say who won right on the front, but it scares you for a sec...

Baby, It's Cold Outside

I am waiting for the snow. I don' t think we are going to get any this time around, more like Freezing Rain, and iced streets. I can wish for the snow though. But even if the snow falls it probably won't stay around too much. The ground is still to warm. Right now though (at 9:45 PM) it is 32 degrees outside, and a storm is on its way. It should reach us about midnight... So, I am waiting for the snow. I might even STAY UP to watch the night time snow fall. Have you ever been outside standing in the forest when snow is falling? That is one the coolest (no pun intended) sounds. It is eerily quite, and yet softly full of sound... I am waiting...

Still Running

I am still running... On Saturday I ran 12 miles in under 2hrs. That is pretty good, but let me tell you that last mile was a killer, literally. I felt like dying... Anyway, yesterday I ran my normal 4 miles which feels good run these days. Today (wednesday) will be a 6 mile run and then tomorrow will be back down to 4 miles. This upcoming saturday will be a 13 miles run (I do look forward to these, really). It is crazy to me to be done with a 4 mile run and feel GREAT, and still have a lot of energy left over for the afternoon. The 6 mile runs are a little harder but still pretty regular run... alright talk soon..

Always Need a Luagh

Always something to write about, just don't always have the time. If you haven't yet seen Napoleon Dynamite, you must. I have only seen it once (really), and a few times at my friend Mel's b-pary in the background, and one of those times in spanish. All that to say I am not one of those fanatics, but it has "grown" in my mind as a FUNNY movie. The more I review things in my head about that film the more I laugh to myself. It is just one of those, make you laugh films (at least I think so). At any-rate, this picture came across my email today and it was labeled: BEST COSTUME. I would have to agree that it was quite funny... Enjoy a laugh..

A look BACK: December 3rd

Did you know that our child Noah turned four about a week ago? Yes, it was the day of the "big race" and I was so SELF ABSORBED I didn't even write that we had a blast at a birthday party for Noah. We took him and his brothers to this "new" place to us called: Hickory Dickory Doc. It was "ok" and kind of like Chucky Cheese, but not as cool. The kids had a blast though, and we played till we dropped. You can check out the pictures below. It blows my mind to think that Noah turned FOUR... A BIG four year old... That makes our kids now... 5, 4, and 2... Oh wow... they grow fast... enjoy the pics...

Most Useful Site: Christian Guitar

As a guitar player who doesn't quite "hear" things as well as I would like (meaning when I want to play a song I have to rely on somebody else doing the leg work of chording it out), I ran across this site yesterday, I am hooked:

Its That Time of The Year Again: DEBATE

So we have entered Christmas time (again another "tradition" given to us by the ancients of our day) where Debate rolls on. We get all upset about Christmas Cards (oops, I mean "Holiday Cards") from presidents that suppose don't give credit to "his" beliefs (even with the BIBLE verse on the card). I heard in one Sub-Division in Michigan a couple was threaten to be fined if they did not take their NATIVITY OFF THEIR YARD. These are "fun" to debate and all, but I really think ALL SIDES are missing it...

First off this is a tradition as are all and most holidays "Christian" or not. The dates are arbitrary. For Christians it wasn't until the fourth century that the church began to put emphasis on Jesus' birth, prior to that (and still today if you ask me) the Easter Holiday is the main thrust of the religion. And even then the "reason" for choosing the 25th of December was to help pagans incorporate their already established dates (some romans horned the birth of Mithra, the god of the UNCONQUERABLE sun, on the 25th of December, along with other traditions that predate Jesus birth took place at this time) into the church and bring more people to the church. Oh don't get me wrong, we do the same today, we incorporate music of a "worldly" venue, we learned from our forefathers what has worked and still use it.

And the DEBATE continues... Now we have so called "magachurches" not holding church services on Sunday (again incorporating the "worldly" into our actions). Of course this one gets me the most. It cracks me up that as CHRISTIANS that are celebrating CHRISTMAS as the birth of the man/God who would change their life, and the face of the earth, would not want to be at CHURCH on that day, with fellow believers WORSHIPING their GOD!

Anyway, all that to say this: I celebrate Christmas as a time to remember the birth of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Am I offended by all the things OTHER people are doing or NOT doing. Not really. I expect it. In the book of John (that is in the Bible, sometimes called St. John) Jesus himself tells us "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first." That is what I keep in mind. I expect the debate, the "outcry", the stupid things both Christians and Non-Believers alike will do.

What started this thought process? Glad you asked... I thought this was funny:

(Oh I can't wait to here the debate on that... Of course I was really curious why the principal has a bong...)

In Action

"Wow, Tim, you're flying!" - Laura Benson... I didn't quite notice what she was talking about... but then... yah... my feet aren't touching the ground... This is a picture of me at the finish line last Saturday. I should say this was only a 10K race (6.2 miles). In bout 12 more weeks I will be ready for the marathon... but there isn't one... I will find one. I am considering doing a half marathon this weekend, but it is three hours away and we would have to spend the night down their to do it, so I don't know... we will see... Anyway it was fun... looking forward to more races...

Someday :: Writing

I have a lot to say... And I could have said it today when I got home, but I just didn't feel like writing... But here it is at 11:50 PM or so and I feel like writing a bit. I make notes to myself in the car on my way to work about things to write about. I have a good list of about 10 things a week that I just never get to... Anyway maybe tomorrow I will write about some of the fun cool things I experienced in the car today. You see it is difficult at times to write at work since my schedule is VERY full. Today I spent the day not only teaching my full load of classes but updating my schools website... You can check it out here...

http://www.cms.k12.nc.us/allschools/windingsprings/index.html

Nothing fancy... But no time to write... I will write tomorrow with some of my car thoughts...

When it Rains it Freezes

“It appears as if people were wearing seat belts this morning, and air bags were deploying properly,” said Charlotte Fire Capt. Rob Brisley. (Charlotte Observer, December 6, 2005 ) Well, today was the first day of icy roads. I hit a few spots, didn't do no damaged, quickly adjusted my driving habits so that I was more aware and cautious of the road and other drivers. It was cold last night I guess... Tonight it is suppose to get down to 24 degrees, and we might actually see SNOW come Thursday. If that is the case, I might not be making it to work. You see around here they shut down the city and everything when it snows. We got a letter from his school that classes may be delayed if it is to icy to go out on the roads and the busses won't come to the streets like usual. Of course worked into the calendar are make up days so that we don't have to work longer. So snow would be cool, if I don't have to drive in it... Keeping you updated on the weather in Upper South Carolina....

1811

I competed in my first race this weekend. The Charlotte North Carolina Thunder Road Race . I am not much of a competitive person. I mean I have never been to athletic. I didn't really start to get into my own in regards to coordination until college, more like 19 years old or so. I enjoyed riding my bike and roller bladeing, but for fun and adventure, not for race. Anyway, I don't know if I "liked" the whole "race" aspect of it. Upon reflection I think running with somebody would have been fun, and more entertaining. As it was I ran and did "ok." I would have liked to have come in about 2 minutes faster. I came in at number 105, at 51 minutes 27 seconds. That ends up being an 8 minute 18 second mile on average. In my age group I came in at 15th, but of course the guy who won the whole thing was 33 years old like me. That is a "good" time for me. But Like I said I would have liked to come in under 50. Upon further thinking I really enjoyed DOING something, and look forward to more training and more running. I was hurting on Wednesday and I don't thing my left tendon ever recovered before the race. Again this is all new to me. I now start my 7th week of training. I will run 24 miles this week, 12 of them on Saturday.

"I'm having a bad night..." - Oliver Smith

Just left Olie up in the room (the one the three boys are sharing since my mom and dad are taking up two rooms, still) and he said "I'm having a bad night..." Of course this is true. Since about 9:30 PM he has been puking and puking and puking.... the poor boy. It is not fun to watch your son puke, to smell your son's puke, to have to clean up puke... I know, I know... Count my blessings.. it is only 10:30 PM... It is usually something like a midnight thing or a one in the morning thing... But hey another good reason for TIVO... Pray for Olie and his sickness, and that the rest of us don't get it, that would be the seven of us...

On Prayer

What have you prayed for today? This Week? Month? Year? Always? My prayer as of late has been to be able to provide for my family, just the basic needs, roof over the head, utilities paid, eating (getting help here), insurance, gas for the car, you know the things we NEED. As I shared earlier this season we took a big hit out of our monthly income when we had to start paying $600 dollars a month for health insurance, unexpectedly. I was worried, but knew that God had a plan. I was worried, but knew that God has always, and I mean ALWAYS, taken care of us. I don't know how he does it, sometimes I ask myself why he does it, but we have always had our NEEDS (and usually much more) taken care of. We (the family) cut certain things out of our lives, begin to buy cheaper items of the needs, begin to try saving pennies at every corner (having the house be a little colder during the winter times, and a little hot during the summer) by lowering our energy bills. Tried everything to make every penny count. I prayed. Jamie Prayed. The family prayed. We prayed that God would get us through this, that He Would continue to provide as he always has...

4 months ensued... It was beginning to hit hard. It was beginning to take its tole on us. I had applied to like 20 different jobs, but no bites (since I was looking for part time work, and am educated). I began looking at the local Mc'D's. Thought it would be fun. Work the late late shift or early early shift, make a little more money to close that 600 dollar deficit each month...

Yesterday was pay day... The state had given us a raise of 75 dollars a month. That was nice... I was looking forward to. It may not seem like much, but hey 75 dollars was about 1/6th of needs to meet the deficit, and it meant I wouldn't have to work as many hours in a second job. The pay check came... It was EXACTLY 600 dollars more then the last month. And there was another check that paid me 600 dollars a month for the past four months as well... I was in disbelief. Basically the District found an error where they were shorting us 600 dollars a month (EXACTLY 600 dollars a month). So this check reflected the change, plus the raise, and then the back pay for the shorting...

We prayed, God answered exactly what we needed, exactly what we asked for. God provides, he always does. In our time table? Not always... Provides the way I like? Not always... But once again, God has given us what we needed to survive, exactly. HE likes to work that way, doesn't he...

Reading Something Else

So I have been reading a lot of things over the past couple of months, and then it hit me while meditating... "What if you were to spend ALL your reading time on the Word of God, instead of the LIST of fiction, help books, sermon books, spiritual books, etc?" So I took that challenge to myself. I have been reading the Bible and only the Bible (Ok I have also been working through the tiny book "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" which maybe I spend ten minutes a day on between classes at work, trying to finish it before the movie comes out, only 70 pages left). Here is what I have been reading this month:

1 Corinthians
2 Corinthians
Galatians
Ephesians
Philippians
Colossians
1 Thessalonians
2 Thessalonians
1 Timothy
2 Timothy
Titus
Philemon
Hebrews
James
1 Peter
2 Peter
1 John
2 John
3 John
Jude
Revelation

Numbers
Deuteronomy
Joshua
Judges

In the middle of Genesis...

I would like to finish the Bible by Christmas... But don't know if that will happen....
