Its That Time of The Year Again: DEBATE

So we have entered Christmas time (again another "tradition" given to us by the ancients of our day) where Debate rolls on. We get all upset about Christmas Cards (oops, I mean "Holiday Cards") from presidents that suppose don't give credit to "his" beliefs (even with the BIBLE verse on the card). I heard in one Sub-Division in Michigan a couple was threaten to be fined if they did not take their NATIVITY OFF THEIR YARD. These are "fun" to debate and all, but I really think ALL SIDES are missing it...

First off this is a tradition as are all and most holidays "Christian" or not. The dates are arbitrary. For Christians it wasn't until the fourth century that the church began to put emphasis on Jesus' birth, prior to that (and still today if you ask me) the Easter Holiday is the main thrust of the religion. And even then the "reason" for choosing the 25th of December was to help pagans incorporate their already established dates (some romans horned the birth of Mithra, the god of the UNCONQUERABLE sun, on the 25th of December, along with other traditions that predate Jesus birth took place at this time) into the church and bring more people to the church. Oh don't get me wrong, we do the same today, we incorporate music of a "worldly" venue, we learned from our forefathers what has worked and still use it.

And the DEBATE continues... Now we have so called "magachurches" not holding church services on Sunday (again incorporating the "worldly" into our actions). Of course this one gets me the most. It cracks me up that as CHRISTIANS that are celebrating CHRISTMAS as the birth of the man/God who would change their life, and the face of the earth, would not want to be at CHURCH on that day, with fellow believers WORSHIPING their GOD!

Anyway, all that to say this: I celebrate Christmas as a time to remember the birth of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Am I offended by all the things OTHER people are doing or NOT doing. Not really. I expect it. In the book of John (that is in the Bible, sometimes called St. John) Jesus himself tells us "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first." That is what I keep in mind. I expect the debate, the "outcry", the stupid things both Christians and Non-Believers alike will do.

What started this thought process? Glad you asked... I thought this was funny:

(Oh I can't wait to here the debate on that... Of course I was really curious why the principal has a bong...)
