Notes on the 1900 Census
  • The above census data was found in a Fall 1976 search by Dave Jordan. The record was located through the use of the Soundex system.
  • An attempt has been made to reproduce all data exactly as it is on the original record; some wording changes have been made for clarity and further information on the meaning of column headings is on the census sheet.
  • Both Dwelling Number and Family Number are artificial numbers used by the census enumerator.
  • If wish to explore any of this data further, please contact Dave directly.
  • Note that "Vanderkloot" was spelled by the enumerator as "Vandercloudt" and "Aletta" was spelled as "Alettha". These are most likely phonetic interpretations of what he heard but may give insight into the actual sound of the words.
  • The number of marriage years, 17, matches with their marriage date of December 26, 1882.
  • The months and years of birth and ages match other data for all cases except that Adrian was born in 1852 not 1853 and Matthew was born in September 1883 not September 1873. Most likely the situation on Matthew was just a misunderstanding and should have been 1883.
  • Dutch records indicate Adrianus came in August 1881 and it is believed Martha came shortly before her marriage in Chicago in December 1882.
