Notes on the 1910 Census
  • The above census data was found in a July 8, 1988 search by Dave Jordan.
  • An attempt has been made to reproduce all data exactly as it is on the original record; some wording changes have been made for clarity and further information on the meaning of column headings is on the census sheet.
  • Both Dwelling Number and Family Number are artificial numbers used by the census enumerator.
  • If wish to explore any of this data further, please contact Dave directly.
  • The surname is written in script and appears to be "Pajevoski". Census takers many times wrote the name phonetically or as they heard it.
  • John and Anna were married 29 April 1893. If the 1910 Census was taken on April 27, 1910 they would have been 2 days short of their 17th anniversary, thus the 16 years indicated is correct.
  • The ages of all of John and Anna Page's children match their date of birth on their baptismal records. This accuracy of the children's dates of birth and of the number of years married suggest there was care in putting down the ages and years. This care suggests the years of birth for John and Anna and John's year of immigration are probably accurate. The age of 45 for John supports birthdate of January 1, 1865 and an age of 38 for Anna supports a birthdate of December 3, 1871.
  • It is unknown if the Pfeiffer family connects in any way to the Pajewskis. They lived in the same building but probably on a different floor. Albert was born in Illinois but his wife was born in Germany and in arrived in 1886, the same year as a number of the others in the Abend, Gainowski, Pastwa, Pajewski group. Thus their data is added here.

Notes on the 1930 Census
  • The above census data was found in an April 2003 search by Dave Jordan.
  • Column heading wording is similar to but not exact heading wording. Further information on column heading wording can be found on 1930 census sheets.
  • An attempt has been made to reproduce all data exactly as it is on the original record.
  • Both Dwelling Number and Family Number are numbers used by the census enumerator in order of visitation.
  • If wish to explore any of this data further, please contact Dave directly.
  • The ages of the three children are correct. However, John's age is one year less than expected. Since he was unsure of his birthdate, it is possible he shifted it from 1865 to 1866 intentionally. This would also match with 27 years as his age at his marriage. Ann shifted her age from 1871 to 1870. It is unclear if this was intentional or just a mistake.
  • The years of immigration are different than earlier census data. John's changed from 1885 to 1887 and Anna's from 1887 to 1888. Probably the earlier data are more accurate.
  • The name of John's and Anna's place of birth towns was a fantastic surprise! Ff foreign born, normally only countries are listed in the census for place of birth. Theirs was the only one on that census page showing actual towns. In fact it is the only one in thirty years of searching where I have seen a town name. So it is a pretty incredible find and to date (2005) it is the only data I have on where exactly they were from. Perhaps in their advancing age they wanted a detailed record of where they were from. Thanks John and Anna for leaving a footprint for future generations on where you were from so long ago.
  • Though they left a great hint, it took a while to figure out from the census handwriting what letters were written as the names of the towns were no longer called what they had written. Earlier census data indicated they were both from West Prussia and their 1926 Name Change document indicated that they were from Danzig (now Gdansk). By enlarging the census handwriting, it is believed that Melense was the name written for John's place of birth and Muntau for Anna's. Both are located in the District of Marienburg, now Malbork, Poland and are about 30 miles southeast of Danzig, now Gdansk. There is other evidence linking Anna to Marienburg. See our Page/Gainowski Locations Page for more information on these towns.
