How to Say Scholdberg
by Dave Jordan
Monica Jönsson, a fellow family genealogy researcher provided the following explanation of how to pronounce Scholdberg, actually Schöldberg
SCHÖLDBERG Pronunciation
- The first sound "SCH" is pronounced with the Swedish sj-sound, which is nearly impossible for all non-native speakers to pronounce.
- The closest you get in English is the sh-sound, like in she.
- The vowel "Ö"sounds like "ea" in early or "u" in nurse.
- "LDB" has the same pronunciation as in English.
- "E" is pronounced like "a" in bad or trap.
- "R" - no problem, and
- "G" is like "j" - in yet. The stress is on the first vowel.
- Good luck, wish I could hear you!
I tried to construct an American English spelling and came up with "Shuldbarj."
