Chicago
James Oscar Jordan and his Uncle Charles Steward settled in Chicago, Illinois in the 1880s.
In August 1893 James' mother, Elizabeth Jordan, his brothers, Charles and James Jordan, and his Grandmother Elizabeth Steward arrived from England.
During the 1890s and early 1900s they all lived on the near west side of Chicago around 1200 to 2000 West and generally a few blocks from Roosevelt Road. The University of Illinois Circle Campus and parts of the Eisenhower Expressway are now located in the area and may in some cases overlap their old neighborhood.
Around 1905, the younger James Jordan moved to Madison and for a few years the entire family joined him, including James Oscar who left his family in Chicago. However between about 1907 and 1909, James Oscar Jordan, Charles Jordan, and their mother, Elizabeth Jordan began returning to Chicago.
After James and Margaret Jordan separated in 1911, Margaret with the children moved further east and further south.
California
Around 1930, Margaret and her 2nd husband Robert Graham moved to California with some of the children. However her son Herbert and Elizabeth Jordan and their family continued to live in Chicago. In 1943, Herbert and Elizabeth Jordan also moved to California.
