Notes on the 1851 Census
  • The above census data was found in a March 2004 search by Dave Jordan at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
  • An attempt has been made to reproduce all data exactly as it is on the original record; some wording changes have been made for clarity and further information on the meaning of column headings is on the census sheet.
  • The data is from HO107/1556 Folio 394.
  • Key data that ties the above family to my (Dave Jordan's) Steward line is the data from Joseph Steward and Elizabeth Holloway's 1847 marriage registration and their son Joseph's birth registration. On the marriage record, Joseph Steward indicated his father was John Isaac Steward, shipwright. The matching element being the occupation of shipwright. On the their son's 18 June 1849 birth registration, their home was 13 Williams Street, the matching element being the proximity to 31 Williams Street and nearby Chrisp Street. See also the Joseph and Elizabeth Steward Family Census Record.
  • However, in research by Diane Cusiel it was found that this Joseph and Elizabeth Steward are not closely related to my Joseph John Steward line. See The Stewards of Poplar. However, it is possibly that there is a connection further back.
