Elizabeth Jordan Census Records

UK Census Records
  • Elizabeth Jordan was formerly Elizabeth Priscilla Scholdberg as shown in the 1871 Census, Oscar Scholdberg being her first husband. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Priscilla Holloway Steward. Her earlier census records are shown with her parent's records, those for Joseph and Elizabeth Steward.
  • For the 1881 Census, James and Elizabeth Jordan could not be found. However, her three known living children (Oscar Scholdberg 1868, Charles Albert Scholdberg 1873, and James H. Jordan 1879) were found on their grandparent's, Joseph and Elizabeth Steward's Census Record. Children Elizabeth Scholdberg (1869), Charles Edward Scholdberg (1871), and Elizabeth Ada Scholdberg (1875) most likely died before 1881.
  • For the 1891 Census, James and Elizabeth Jordan could not be found. However, their son James H. Jordan was found on their grandparent's, Joseph and Elizabeth Steward's Census Record. Her son, Charles A. Scholdberg has not been found for the 1891 Census.

Notes on the 1871 Census
  • TThe above census data was found in a March 2004 search by Dave Jordan at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City using the Ancestry on-line index.
  • An attempt has been made to reproduce all data exactly as it is on the original record; some wording changes have been made for clarity and further information on the meaning of column headings is on the census sheet.
  • The data is from RG 10, 574, Page 43 Folio 25.
  • An attempt has been made to reproduce all data exactly as it is on the original record; some wording changes have been made for clarity and further information on the meaning of column headings is on the census sheet.
  • Oscar and Elizabeth Scholdberg were lodgers with the George Bell family at the time of the 1871 Census. They are located in Bromley, which is nearby Poplar in the Borough of Tower Hamlets. All other addresses of the Stewards and Scholdbergs were in Poplar; that is why it took so long to find this census record.
  • Elizabeth was born in 1847 and was 24 not 27. It is thought that Oscar Scholdberg was born about 1837 and thus would have been about 33 as indicated. Daughter Elizabeth was born 1869-1870. She is not to be confused with their daughter Elizabeth Ada Scholdberg who was born 23 July 1875.

Notes on the 1900 Census
  • The above census data was found in a summer of 1978 search by Dave Jordan at the Newberry Library. The record was located through the use of the Soundex system.
  • An attempt has been made to reproduce all data exactly as it is on the original record; some wording changes have been made for clarity and further information on the meaning of column headings is on the census sheet.
  • Both Dwelling Number and Family Number are artificial numbers used by the census enumerator.
  • If wish to explore any of this data further, please contact Dave directly.
  • Stewart should have been Steward.
  • Elizabeth Jordan was born February 27, 1847, not 1850. Her son Charles was born September 30, 1873, not 1874. Other data shows Charles Hooper Steward born February 27, 1851 not February 1860. The 1851 year is confirmed by the 1871 UK Census.
  • The year of immigration of 1893 is correct. It is not known if Charles immigrated in 1880.
  • As with James Oscar Jordan, Charles Jordan has also listed his father's birthplace as England. It is thought to be Sweden.
