Notes on the 1920 Census
  • The above census data was found about 1995 in a search by Marianne Garcher at the Allen County Library, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The record was located through the use of the Soundex system.
  • An attempt has been made to reproduce all data exactly as it is on the original record; some wording changes have been made for clarity and further information on the meaning of column headings is on the census sheet.
  • Both Dwelling Number and Family Number are artificial numbers used by the census enumerator.
  • If wish to explore any of this data further, please contact Dave directly.
  • Herbert Jordan was born July 24, 1898 and Elizabeth Jordan was born December 8, 1895. The age discrepancy appears to be part of their plan to make him older and her younger. Harold Jordan was born May 12, 1919.

Notes on the 1930 Census
  • The above census data was found in an April 2003 search by Dave Jordan.
  • Column heading wording is similar to but not exact heading wording. Further information on column heading wording can be found on 1930 census sheets.
  • An attempt has been made to reproduce all data exactly as it is on the original record.
  • Both Dwelling Number and Family Number are numbers used by the census enumerator in order of visitation.
Herbert was born June 20, 1920. Edward was born September 2,1922. All the ages except Ed's are off a little in the table. Elizabeth should have been 34.
  • Herbert and Elizabeth were married August 21, 1918. Herbert was 20 and Elizabeth was 22.
  • The places of birth for Herbert Jordan's parents were written as "Unknown" and then crossed out. There were a couple of tiny letters scripted in, but the lettering was too small and too light to read. From other data it is known that Herbert's father was born in Poplar, England and that Herbert's mother was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
