Katherine's Passport Application is dated May 18, 1914 and uses this address. The Chicago Directory shows James A. Filipek (clerk) and John J. Filipek (salesman at 528 S. 5th av) at this address; there is no listing for Katherine. Quincy appears to be a few blocks south of Madison. This means it was not on the south side but about 5 miles west of the 3001 S. Emerald location and about 3 miles north. It was about a mile east of Riverside. It is not clear why they moved there or if they knew someone, but perhaps it helped them to know the Riverside area.

Letter
|
In the spring of 1965 Grace was still living at 7047 S. Ada and the house was up for sale. The first offers were coming in when it was found that the house was still in the name of Grace's parents and all the 6 children or their heirs would receive the proceeds. Grace worked with her husbands law partner, Charlie Kropik throughout 1965 and 1966 to sort it all out and act as the heirs representative.

Grace used to commute to the Chicago Loop on the train from her home at 105th and South Hale to work as a temp for Stivers. She joked about working with her friends sitting around a table doing envelope stuffing. In the old days she had been an executive secretary. I think she enjoyed having something to do and being with friends. She may have also worked from 1962 on also.

|
Grace Filipek died March 7, 1979. Grace had a stroke which around 1968 to 1969 which impaired her ability to travel to the loop and to live alone. When Jeanne and Ed moved to Wheaton in 1969 she gave up her apartment and moved in with them. Dave was the lucky recipient of all her furniture.
