Seasonal Ceremonies
Seasonal ceremonies, especially those celebrated by groups
will often included special activities suitable to the time
of year or inspired by folk costumes. Typical examples
include offerings of decorated eggs at Eostre, the parading
of a Jack in the Green on May Day, the lighting of bonfires
and maypole dancing at midsummer, lighting candles for the
dead at Ancestor's Night or Winter Nights and so on.
Rites of Passage
Rites of Passage such as baby namings, marriages and
funerals tend to be more complex as heathen communities put
in extra effort to make the day special for the
individual/s being celebrated. Typical examples of these
ceremonies are listed separately.
Magical Ceremonies
Magical ceremonies are performed as the need arises, most
commonly for healing, protection or hallowing. These are
often undertaken by individuals or single households where
it is impractical to gather a heathen group together at
short notice. The techniques used in heathen magical are
extremely diverse and most common varieties are listed
separately.
