Vacation 2009, Day Three, Part Two
Have I menitoned in these vacation journals jsut how much I hate NYC? Let me give you an example of why I hate it. First, some trivia. The George Washington Bridge is 4,760 feet long. Let me remind you that a measured mile is 5,280 feet long. So, the bridge is less thana mile long. Granted, it only took me an hour to get over it this year, as opposed to the three hours it took last year, and, for that, I am grateful, but it kept me from reaching Providence today.
I am alive and well (I'm pretty sure of that) in a Days Inn in Old Saybrook, Connecticutt. I must be pretty close to the ocean.. I can smell it outside in the parking lot. It's nice. But, if I had gottenthrough NYC in a timely manner, I would have made it to Providence. As it stands, I have a three hour drive tomorrow to Woods Hole, instead of the two for which I had hoped.
I reallyhate NYC.
The rest of the drive was amazingly fast and peaceful. Instead of I-95, I came out of Boone onto I-81, and followed it forever to I-78, near Allentown, PA, and that took me to I-95 north of Newark. I am now just off I-95.
I'll say this, though, I do like traveling with the Garmin GPS I gave my mom last summer. It prevented several bad moves on my part (although it DID take me over the GWB, dammit), and will find my way back to I-95 esily enough.
So. I am safe and well. Take care of yourselves!
