A Week or So Ago, Just Remembered

The Mad Scientists Club reunion....

When I was in elementary school, I discovered two books, The Adventures of the Mad Scientists Club and The New Adventures of the Mad Scientists Club, by Bertrand R. Brinley. Featuring the kids of Mammoth Falls, these were the stories I wanted to be in- a group of friends (which I did not have) doing wonderfully incredible things (that I never did). In one of the stories, the club buys a Japanese minisub for about $3.00. They refit it and hide it in their cave behind the falls. It was very cool.

Now, the dream. Thirty years have passed. The Mad scientists have all grown up. Some went to college, some didn't. One of them stayed in Mammoth Falls and regrets every moment of it. But it's a high school reunion, and they are all back at the banquet, introducing sons and daughters, reminiscing about old times. And something happens. I don't know what, but something happened in Strawberry Lake, and there is a need to get to the bottom, quickly! As everyone tries to think of how to make it happen, one of the children remembers his father talking about the sub.

"Why not take the 'Lady Go Diver'?"
"What, son?"
"Your submarine? Isn't it still there?"

And they save the day with their sub. Or, rather, their children do. The adults are too big to fit into the cavern.. or into the sub.. or something. It was a fun dream, and it got me thinking about those characters and stories again, and I went into the guest room, where I store my library, and pulled those two books down and started reading. And reading those stories again was fun!

I will dream again... assuming I ever sleep.
