Digital Permanence
A thought on the printed word.
There is something magical, something lasting
about the written word. Even if it is only digital, there is something special
about seeing your words on screen, on paper, and it makes all the difference in
the world.
When spoken, words are
fleeting. Maybe someone hears them and writes them down, but, for the most part,
the words leave us, enter the air, and vanish. Their memory may last, the effect
they have on other people may last, but the words themselves are
gone.
I have 12 copies of my script
with me. We are having a read-through this Sat, followed by dinner. I'm looking
forward to in a nervous, scared, excited way. And having my words printed like
that, for so many people to read, makes me feel more protective of it. NDAs are
written and printed, so my words are protected. I just hope that, at some point,
many many people can see this story!
