Mr. Donald J. Walter (Bachelor of Music Education magna cum laude UNCG '94) is the Orchestra Director at East Henderson High School and Flat Rock Middle School in Hendersonville, NC. During his eleven years at East and Flat Rock, his groups have earned twenty-nine "Superior" ratings at NC Contest/Festival and his students have been selected to numerous Regional and All-State Orchestras, the NC Governor's School, and have received college scholarships to major in music. Mr. Walter is an active clinician who has conducted both the high school and middle school NC Western Region Repertory Orchestras and numerous all-county orchestras at both the high school and middle school levels including clinics in Wilmington, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and his own Hendersonville. For the past thirteen years Mr. Walter has been on the faculty of the UNCG Summer Music Camp working his way up from rehearsal assistant to the conductor of the Junior and Senior Orchestras. He was the first UNCG Summer Music Camp camper to become a conductor. He enjoys performing as a member of the string bass section in both the Hendersonville Symphony and the Spartanburg Philharmonic. He lives in Hendersonville, NC with his son, Andrew. In May he will marry his fiancee, Dr. Jennifer Stewart. |
