Looking for a Christmas gift for friends and family - how about an O.M.C.S. shirt or hat? Maybe an extra cluster shirt will ease the pressure to get the laundry done by Wednesday night ever week (Spirit Day Eve). You have another chance to this week, but you'll have to act fast. We need all completed order forms with payment to the office by the end of the school day November 20th in order to deliver shirts to the classrooms the week of 12/7.
An order form for the shirts and the baseball hat form is attached. We will also have the forms available in the office.
Our Magazine Drive Is On!
Here is another way to make some of the dollars you already spend work for The Open School: renew existing magazine subscriptions, or order new ones, through QSP, and Friends of the Open School will receive 40% of the subscription price. QSP has a great selection of magazines at great prices. Subscriptions make great gifts!
Here’s how easy it is:
- Go to www.QSP.com.
- Enter school #425002799 or select “Open Magnet School.”* New customers will be asked to list a participating student. Fill in a name, but be aware that we are not participating in any prize or incentive programs.
- Order or renew your favorite magazines, and Friends of the Open School will receive 40% of the subscription price.
- Family and friends can participate, too! It’s that easy!

What is eScrip?
eScrip is a hassle-free way for us to raise funds for the Open School through everyday purchases made at merchants affiliated with the program.
Who can be involved?
Parents, grandparents, aunts, neighbors, friends and co-workers can all contribute painlessly to Open School by adding their club card and/or credit/debit cards to our eScrip group.
How does it work?
eScrip and hundreds of merchant partners have created a system that rewards customers by contributing a percentage of purchases (up to 8%!) to your chosen group. Some of the participating merchants are Vons/Pavilions, Bristol Farms, Macy’s, Carrows and Coco’s. You shop the way you like to shop for groceries, clothing, travel and entertainment. It’s simple and convenient – all you need to do is register your grocery club card and debit/credit cards. Every year eScrip asks that we renew our registration. Our goal for this year is to have every family in the school enrolled in eScrip.
Simple Registration – Register Today!
Visit www.escrip.com and click on members/supporters, then on signup. Click on group ID and enter: 136559730 (or enter Friends of Open School under the group name). Click on Friends of Open School, click next and add your credit/debit numbers. Or, fill out the attached escrip form. Vons Club members use the attached form with your Vons Club number. Ask friends and extended family to add their card numbers as well. Return to your child’s classroom and the office will forward the forms to Linda Hernandez, Open School’s eScrip coordinator.
For renewal:
Visit www.escrip.com and click on members/supporters, enter your phone number, click on reregister button. Make sure you have credit/debit card numbers registered that you use regularly. Employer Matching Grant Programs = Free Money for Open School!
Does your employer have a Matching Grant Program? Many employers will contribute to charities that their employees contribute to. Many of these companies match contributions dollar for dollar, and sometimes more. That means that if you work for one of these companies, and donate $600 to our Pledge Drive, your employer will also contribute $600, bringing the total donation to $1200! It’s a great way to raise substantial funds for the school at no additional cost and with very little effort. Some examples of companies with matching grant programs:
- Aerospace: Hughes, Raytheon, Boeing
- Entertainment: Time-Warner, Sony, Universal
- Finance: Bank of America
- Pharmaceuticals: Pfizer, Merck, Bristol Meyers
- Other: Microsoft, Mattel, General Mills, Kellogg, Gap, Coca Cola, PG&E, Edison and many, many more!
In the past, Friends has received from $6000 to $10,000 in matching grants! Please give it a try! Here’s how easy it is:
- Contact your human resources department to find out if there is a matching grant program.
- Obtain the form and fill in your information.
- Send the form to school in an envelope marked “Pledge Drive/ Matching Grant,” and we’ll handle the rest.

Got an Open School T-shirt?
The Open School logo is a treasured part of our school history, but in recent years there have been requests for a new Tshirts. Carole Suzuki is heading up this effort, and would like help from any parents interested in organizing the design contest. If you would like to help, please call Carole at (310)306-6850 or email her at ptscws@aol.com. In the meantime, we have stocked up on the “old” Tshirts because the new ones will not be available before many clusters go on their first field trips. Stop by the office or call to see if your child’s size is now available. Get them now before they become vintage!
Inkjet Cartridge Recycling
Bring those old printer cartridges from your home or office and drop them off in the box in the front office. They will be recycled and a donation will be made to the school. For more information, contact Leslie Ancona at leslieancona@hotmail.com

If new to the Ralphs website and you've never entered your Ralphs store card number before then choose the SIGN ME UP option.

It is unlike Ralphs and escrip where you need to re-register every year!
