Support the Open Magnet Charter School Jog-a-Thon
Our children have been training all school year with Coach Gio for this culminating fundraising event – the Open Magnet Charter School Jog-a-Thon. Now they need our support as they run to raise funds for our school. Whether you volunteer to count and tally laps or whether you are there to cheerlead, your children will understand that you value their physical fitness AND you value their school. Will Green outrun Blue? Is Indigo really lightening fast? You’ll have to attend the jog-a-thon and see it for yourself. Use this form to get sponsors for our little runners.
On Friday, June 5th from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm Open Magnet Charter School students will don their jog-a-thon t-shirts - a freebie for all participants - and run, jog or walk as many laps as they can manage in a 30 minute period of time. Keeping it lively, our own Charlie Cohen will be in the house to emcee/dj all day long.
Volunteer parents will set up the event from 10:00 am until noon. We hope you can stay for the entire afternoon, but if your time is limited, the Cluster Running Schedule is as follows:
- 12:45 – 1:30 pm Green, Silver, Red
- 1:30 – 2:00 pm Indigo, Yellow, Orange
- 2:15 – 2:45 pm Blue, Purple
- 3:00 – 3:30 pm Adult “Extra Mile”
Moms, Dads, Grandmas, Grandpas and almost adult siblings who want to help students increase their total laps can participate in the “Extra Mile” by simply asking for a tracking form at the tally table day of the event. Adult laps will be added to their children’s total as specified on the completed forms. So don’t forget your head bands and running shorts.
After all this running, volunteering and cheering folks will probably be in need of a little pick-me-up. From 3:00 – 6:00 pm you can feast on BBQ a la Larry Clemons, Pupusas by Aracely Urbina and assorted baked goods. While enjoying the good eats you can purchase tickets for the amazing jog-a-thon raffle. Five dollars buys you a chance to win an American Girl Gift Basket (valued at $200), two Adult Full Admission Tickets to the Long Beach Aquarium (valued at $50 for two), a Whole Foods Gift Basket ($75 value) and much, much more… Five raffle tickets will be sent home with each student. Their goal – Sell ‘em all!
Cluster post parties, honoring everyone’s hard work and participation are planned June 8. Every cluster gets a party, but the more money the cluster earns, the better the party.
- Krispy Kreme Donut Party for raising $1 - $999
- Ice Cream Party for raising $1,000 - $3,999
- Movie & Treats in the auditorium for raising $4,000+
(complete with pizza, popcorn, candy & juice boxes)
Sponsorship forms will be sent home Thursday before spring break. This gives students plenty of time to seek generous donors to sponsor them on a per lap basis or for a flat fee. Our challenge is to raise $4,000 per cluster. Can we do it? Yes, we can. Movie and Treats for Everyone!
