This is our vacation in the Big Island!
We stayed at Manago Hotel in Captain Cook. It's a great Hotel owned by Nikkeis.
You can sleep on futons...
or you can take a Japanese ofuro.
and don't forget this beautiful sunset!
It's just an amazing sight...
Kois are happily swimming in the pond with Gojyu-no-To.
This is Puuhonua O Honaunau National HIstorical Park. English translation: Place of Refuge.
There is a great snorkeling spot near the park, too.
You can learn Hawaiian culture such as Hula Kahiko,
or Ancient Hawaiian Handcrafts.
Do these Hawaiian Gods look like they are smiling, or they are angry?
Well, Staffan is smiling for sure!
This is the most southern point in USA! Ka Lae South Point.
The water's blue is absolutely fabulus, and locals are cliff jumping there.
Olof couldn't help himself...
He jumped off the 40 feet (at least) cliff!!!
"Go Ahead! I got your credit card! You can jump now!"
Plate Lunches are very ono (delicious)! Syoyu Chicken, Kalua Pork, Chicken Katsu...
Blacksand Beach is known as a good place to find honu (sea turtle).
Not very good place for snorkeling, as water gets pretty black.
Hilo is a very nice old Hawaiian town.
Merrie Monarch Festival (Hula's Olympics) is held here, right here!
Tomo-Hoku got excited.
Nice little walk to Coconut Island,
Where you can find cute sign like this.
A big Island trip would not complete without vising Kilauea.
nor without mentioning Pele, the goddess of the Volcano.
Tomo-Hoku felt special feeling, as if she was in mother's womb.... is it coming from Pele?
What a magical art nature can create!
Lihua tree is standing right on Lava. Amazing power of nature.
Being in a Lava Tube is an interesting experience.
This Lava is named "Pele's hair." You can also see "Pele's tears" at the museum.
Breathtaking view from Kilauea.
After 1-mile hike, you can find many Petrogryphs.
They are mainly talking about how many babies were born in each households...
We have one baby in our household (and that's enough for now)!
Waipio Valley's beautiful curve.
This real Kamehameha statue stands in the city called Hawi, which is known for his birth place.
For us, it's also known for a great stop to taste more plate lunch.
Puukohola Heiau was built for Kamehameha's victory.
It's a very special, sacred place for Hawaiians.
Olof joined Mauna Kea Star Gazing tour.
It was beautiful, but...
very cold. That's the shadow of Mauna Kea in the back.
Honu is just like Tomo-Hoku. Like to enjoy the sun on the beach...
or enjoy the warm, clear water of the Big Island.
What is this Honu doing?
On July 4th, we went to "Turtle Independence Day."
Graceful Honu Hula by the local ladies.
Staffan enjoyed the putting golf at Hilton Waikoloa.
As far as I know, it is the most beautiful putting course on earth.
And he beat his mommy...
Dolphins came to say "Aloha" while we were sea kayaking.
Kona's coffee farms are producing a great aroma.
Our favorite restaurant - Teshima's. Best Japanese food in the Island.
(or in the pasific? In the USA?)
Oshima Store has its charm. Next to Oshima, Kimura Fabric Store.
Tomo-Hoku feels much at home, more than she feels in Japan.
The Kona sunset is definitely something to remember.
Mahalo (Thank you), Honu!
Mahalo, Kamehameha the Great!
And, Big Mahalo to Pele!
