Family Cars in California
While I was in high school, circa 1958, we made two big jumps: (1) to a second car, so that the folks could handle their dispersed commitments, and (2) to a (gasp!) foreign car.

Here she is, a sweet little Renault 4CV (quatre chevaux), even smaller (and decidedly less Teutonic) than the then-novel Volkswagen Bug. Very uncommon in our part of the world, then and now.

Brent (resplendent in his Arrowview Junior High School letterman’s sweater) points out the new MIT sticker in her rear window.

And here’s another shot, right after she sprouted a bright red paint job. I don’t recall whether she had been damaged, or whether Pappy had just decided she was too cute to remain beige.
