Holiday Poker

Happy holidays. Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving.

Not much going on personally with poker except running tournaments and actually dealing. Yes, I've actually dealt the last few weeks. I'm only scheduled to deal twice a week but I'm usually on the other side of the table instead of the box.

I almost forgot how hard it is to be a dealer. Until recently, the last time I dealt a full 8 hour day was way back in July. It's a tough profession. To those who get to play live poker make sure you show appreciation for dealers who run a good game. Anything you throw their way is much appreciative.

Haven't played too much live though this past weekend I did try a couple of satellites. There was a time where I'd win every satellite I played. Lately it's more when I will I get sucked out. I thought I turned it around in the first satellite when I played my game of letting everyone knock each other out. I was able to get 3 handed as the usual short stack. I was finally able to build some chips and saw AK when I decide to just call on the small blind. BB pushes and I beat him into the pot when of course it is AA. I was able to turn a gutshot but AA held up. I did find AA when the button pushed with KQ and my AA held up. I got heads up and AK again when my raise was called by A2. Of course a deuce flopped and I'm done.

Yesterday I got heads up again in a satellite when a new player and I got heads up. I couldn't shake him and since the blinds got into crapshoot levels, I proposed we play the next hand in a showdown with the winner playing the in the tournament giving the other player half their action. He agreed so in our showdown hand I got 52o against his 73o. The flop came two face cards so I was hoping for a push. Turn put a 3 out there giving me a gushot draw and a 5 to draw to but alas it didn't get there. He ended up making the final table going out 8th with no money since it was a winner take all tournament. Oh well. Eventually I'll get over the hump. My target return to tourney success is the Los Angeles Poker Classic at Commerce in February.

In the meantime I'm working on my cash game live and online. Tourneys are fun but the bills are paid through live play.

Good luck to those heading to Vegas this Saturday for the WPBT. Unfortunately I have to work but keep your calendars open as there are plans to have the Los Angeles leg of the tour in Jan/Feb 2005.
