My name is Oliver Holme. I was born in Sunderland, UK in 1979. Download a copy of my CV here (PDF).
In 2002 I graduated with a MEng 1st in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Birmingham.
As part of my degree course I worked in the University Racing Team to help produce the electronics required for a racing car (Car 119).
My final year project was to create a Student Learning Organiser on a Pocket PC. This was part of the HandLeR project of the Educational Technology Research Group.
I took a year out of my university course to work at CERN in Geneva as a technical student. Working in such an international environment was very exciting. Living in Geneva for a year also helped me to speak French better.
I can speak French and German and have just started studying Japanese. Next I want to learn Spanish.
I enjoy travelling a lot. So far, I have done most of my travelling in Europe. I like taking photos on my travels, some of which can be seen in my gallery.
I relax by reading books and listening to music. I like to read popular science books and classic novels. I am keen on most types of music and like to expand my knoweldge of music (as well as my CD collection).
I own an Apple iMac and have have written some applications for Mac OS X. You can see the results on my Mac OS X software page.
Since I was young, I have always been interested in railways. Recently, I have joined a group that are restoring the original British Railways APT-E, the first tilting train in the world!
