9015: Estate of Charles J. Roland, late of Manchester Township, York County, Pennsylvania, deceased. Widows Election. "I, Lillian Roland, widow of Charles J. Roland, late of the Township of Manchester, York County, Pennsylvania, being acquainted with the provisions contained in the last will and testament of my late husband Charles J. Roland, dated January 25th, 1922, duly probated and remaining of record in the Register of Wills office of York County, Pennsylvania, in Will Book 3 K, Page 157, for my benefit, and also of my rights under the intestate laws of Pennsylvania, do hereby elect to take under said last will and testament.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 22nd day of January 1927."

"Personally appeared before me, a Notary Public, in and for said County and State, Lillian Roland, who in due form of law acknowledged the foregoing Election to be her act and deed and desired the same might be recorded as such according to the law. [Apparently, this gets into the official record that she is now the legal owner of the property left to her in her husband's will, as opposed to whatever she'd be entitled to if he had died intestate. See sale of said property in following deed.]

Volume 23T, pp. 53-54:

9016: From Lillian Roland, widow, of the Township of Manchester, County of York and State of Pennsylvania, to William H. Bruaw, of the Township of East Manchester, County of York and State of Pennsylvania, dated 22 Jan 1927. For $3,600.00, a "lot of ground situate in the village of Emigsville, Township of Manchester, County of York and State of Pennsylvania, bounded and described as follows, to wit:

Beginning at a point on the Northwest side of a State Road, formerly the York and York Haven Turnpike, road at land of Reuben Kann: thence along said State Road north twenty three degrees East fifty feet to land of William Roland: thence along land of William Roland north sixty seven degrees west one hundred and fifty feet, more or less to an alley: thence along said alley South twenty three degrees west fifty feet to land of Reuben Kann: thence along land of Reuben Kann South sixty seven degrees east one hundred and fifty feet more or less to the place of beginning.

It being the same ground which Sarah E. Emig, by her deed dated May 14, 1888 and recorded in the Recorders Office of York County, Pennsylvania, in Record Book 8 T, page 238, sold and conveyed to Charles J. Roland, and it being the same of which the said Charles J.Roland died seized in his demeans as of fee having left his last will and testament dated January 25, 1922, and since his death duly probated before the Register of Wills of York County, Pennsylvania, and remaining of record in Will Book 3 K, page 157, wherein and whereby he provided inter alia as follows:

'I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Lillian Roland all my property, real, personal and mixed, of which I may die seized, to have and to hold during her national (natural) life, with all profits or rents that may accrue therefrom, she to have the privilege to dispose at public or private sale of same as soon as a fare price can be realized'

The said Lillian Roland having elected to accept the provision of the foregoing will, which election has been duly filed and recorded in the Recorders Office of York County, Pennsylvania."
