The orginal photograph is in an album in the care of Dianne (Gleim) Bowders of Tennessee and was identified by her maternal grandmother, Mabel (Zumbrun) Rishel, as Mabel's uncle Charlie Roland. The lettering along the bottom reads "Johnson Bros., 467 & 469 Pa Ave., Washington, D.C.
More research is needed to determine what time period the Johnson Brothers studio operated from this address in Washington, DC, which would help bracket the date of this portrait. His death certificate states that he was born 16 Febnruary 1857.
