NRP Phase 2 Plan Ready for Neighborhood
Review
The Tangletown Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) began the Phase 2 planning process in the fall of 2006. A Steering Committee was reorganized and approved by the Tangletown Neighborhood Association (TNA) Board to complete the Phase 2 Plan. The committee has relied heavily on the direction and experience gained from the Phase 1 Plan as well as the results of the Tangletown Neighborhood 2005 NRP Phase 2 Mail Survey (400 residents for a 22% return rate). Over the past year, the committee met with several city officials and other representatives of public and private, nonprofit organizations to determine Phase 2 funding guidelines, priorities, needs, and constraints. The majority of Phase 2 funds must be spent on Housing. For Tangletown’s total allocation of $336,000 for the NRP Phase 2 Program, $212,280 will be allocated for home improvement loan programs and an emergency home repair program. Other major funding recommendations of the Steering Committee include $43,700 for improvements to Fuller Park, the water tower grounds and other neighborhood amenities; $25,100 for crime and safety; $10,000 for business exterior improvement loans; $12,528 for work with the city and county to implement improvements to Lyndale Avenue; and $33,100 for community building activities such as plan implementation, enhancing communications and community engagement, and neighborhood events.
At the August meeting, the TNA Board authorized release of the draft NRP Phase 2 Plan for neighborhood review. Copies of the plan are now available for review on the Tangletown web site, as well as at the Washburn Library and at Fuller Park. A question and comment session will be held at the next TNA Board meeting on Monday, September 17th, 7pm at Fuller Park. Involvement and attendance by neighborhood residents will be encouraged throughout the review process and especially at the Board’s October 17th meeting, 7pm at Fuller Park. At that meeting, a vote will be taken by all neighborhood residents in attendance to approve or disapprove the plan. If approved, the plan will be forwarded to the citywide NRP Committee for final approval.
