The pruning of apple trees which occurs in orchards is a case again where the user has been configured. Pruning is not an arbitrary process imposed on the trees. It is an accomplishment which has evolved over a long period of time, where the desire to control the tree is shaped by the biology of the tree. Pruning is shaped by the innate disposition of the tree to grow in a certain way at certain times. Pruning has been adapted to best work with this disposition.
