Recommended Gear
The links which follow highlight some basic gear and gadgets that can be used in producing audio files for Podcasts or other purposes. For starters, the Behringer Eurorack UB 802 is the one I use to record audio directly into a MacBook Pro.
In "Studio C," I use an MXL 990 Condenser Mic exclusively. I've not found a better mic for the money. In fact, I wouldn't trade it for a mic costing ten times as much.
Although I've been using a Zoom H4 for field recording lately, based on reports from other users and a review of the input features, I would highly recommend the Zoom H2 for recording on location. For that matter, it would be an excellent all-around portable high-fidelity stereo studio.
On the Mac, I use Rogue Amoeba's Audio Hijack Pro for recording and sound processing, and the most amazing (free!) open source software for recording and mixing sound -- Audacity. There are versions for Mac, Linux, Windows and other operating systems.
I use Skype for telephone interviews.
I like Juice for downloading and managing Podcast subscriptions, and Podcast Alley is my first stop for quality content. I use Feedburner for publishing the feeds, and of course PodShow hosts our media files.
